Update: The offers below have expired and are no longer available.

In the same week that Canada reopened its borders to some fully-vaccinated travelers, the nation’s flag carrier has introduced a bonus points incentive to tempt would-be travelers to spend money with the airline once again.

Air Canada is incentivizing its Aeroplan members to buy gift cards by rewarding them with Aeroplan points.

Offer Details

This isn’t just your average points-buying bonus.

In a unique twist, rather than awarding Aeroplan members bonus points when buying points, Air Canada is instead rewarding those who buy gift cards.

This could be a great idea for Canadians and Americans alike who aren’t ready to travel just yet but are likely to jet off with Air Canada in the near future.

There’s a maximum of 50,000 bonus points to be earned. However, that would mean spending a cool CA$10,000 on gift cards.

Your bonus Aeroplan points can then be redeemed on flights, upgrades, hotels, and more.

To be eligible for this offer, you must be a member of Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program (it’s quick and easy to sign up online).

The offer is available for a limited time only as gift card purchases must be made before 11:59 p.m. PST on September 14, 2021.

Gift card purchases of up to CA$750 will earn 1 bonus Aeroplan point per CA$1 spent. Any amount between CA$750 and CA$2,000 will earn 2 bonus Aeroplan points per CA$1 spent. Though CA$2,000 is the limit per transaction, members can repeat this offer 5x to spend a maximum of CA$10,000.

Be sure to make sure your Aeroplan number is entered correctly at the time of purchase.

Members can expect the bonus Aeroplan points to be credited to their accounts by October 31, 2021.

Final Thoughts

Earning bonus Aeroplan points for your Air Canada gift card purchase is a win-win situation.

If you were to pay for your tickets directly online with your credit or debit card, you’ll only earn the usual Aeroplan points for taking the flights. However, following a few more steps to buy a gift card will earn you both the usual Aeroplan points for taking the flights plus the bonus of up to a maximum of 50,000 Aeroplan points.

Many of the best travel rewards credit cards also earn up to 5x points on airfare purchases, and these points can be worth considerably more when transferred to airlines and hotel partners. It is worth considering if buying flights directly or utilizing gift cards would best benefit your goals.

If there’s a high chance your near or not-too-distant future travel plans could include flights with Air Canada, then it might make sense to jump on this gift card bonus points offer.
