Are you familiar with the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®? Probably not, since it’s not very well-known in the points and miles community.

Issued by Bank of America, the card features an $89 annual fee and has a few different benefits, including a 5,000-mile account anniversary bonus. More interesting than that, however, is the card’s limited-time welcome offer. Let’s take a look.

Offer Details

There aren’t published dates for when this Air France KLM World Elite card offer will end, which means if you’re interested, you’ll want to jump on it sooner rather than later:

  • Earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 in the first 90 days of card ownership, plus a bonus of 40 XP (Experience Points)
  • Receive 60 XP upon approval for the card

This may not seem like a huge deal, but you can regularly find business class award space on Air France or KLM to Europe for 60,000 miles and under, meaning this bonus can potentially be worth thousands of dollars — and that’s not bad for just $3,000 in spend. In addition to the welcome offer, the card features:

  • 3x miles on Air France, KLM, and SkyTeam purchases
  • 1.5x miles on all other purchases
  • 5,000-mile bonus each year on your account anniversary every year during which you’ve spent $50 or more on the card
  • 20 XP every year on your account anniversary, plus an additional 40 XP (totaling 60 XP) on your account anniversary after you spend $15,000 or more on purchases within the anniversary year

As you can see, the benefits of this card are thin on the ground, but keep in mind that it’s a World Elite Mastercard. These cards come with a bevy of perks, including concierge access and a free Shoprunner membership.

Is It Worth It?

The fact that you’ve probably never heard of this card can probably tell you whether it’s worth a great slot in your wallet. If you’re bumping up against Chase’s 5/24, obviously, this card isn’t one you’d like to acquire. However, if you’re looking for a new card and any chance of getting one with other major card issuers is shot, you may want to consider going after this one.

With this welcome offer, you can easily earn more than your money’s worth out of your miles, especially when you take advantage of Air France’s rotating Promo Rewards.

Here’s a look at a one-way nonstop flight from Detroit (DTW) to Paris (CDG):

Detroit is on Air France’s list of Promo Rewards for March, which means you’ll save 25% on reward flights for this route. In this case, it means you’ll pay just 18,750 miles plus $95.70 for that same one-way flight:

After spending $3,000 on purchases to earn that welcome offer, you’ll have a minimum of 73,000 Flying Blue miles. That’s nearly enough for you and a friend to fly roundtrip to Europe. Not bad!

Hot Tip:

Flying Blue miles are easy to earn, as you can transfer from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Brex RewardsCapital One MilesChase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Wells Fargo Rewards at a 1:1 ratio. You also can transfer from Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 points transferred.

Final Thoughts

It’s always good news when a credit card comes out with a limited-time offer. In this case, though, it’s probably not a card with which you’re familiar. Still, if you’re looking to quickly boost your Flying Blue balance, it may be worth getting in while the getting is good. Otherwise, take advantage of the program’s multiple partnerships to snag those discounted reward flights.
