Welcome back to another airline news roundup.

In the same week that saw lots of announcements about exciting new airline cabins and seats, we also said a fond farewell to the Airbus A340-6000 — one of the most iconic aircraft in the skies.

United’s Elevated Interiors Will Expand to More U.K. Routes Soon

Earlier than originally estimated, United‘s all-new Boeing 787-9s with Elevated interiors will start flying on the Houston (IAH) to London (LHR) route as of December 2, 2026.

The jet will operate the first of United’s second daily Heathrow-bound flights: UA880 from Houston to London and UA879 on the return leg.

American Receives First Refurbished Regional Jets

American Airlines is going all in on its cabin refreshes, including its Embraer E175s, of which the first retrofit is now complete. The jets, which operate shorter or lower-demand regional routes from hubs like Chicago (ORD), are being updated with Recaro R2 seats, adjustable headrests, and a fold-down mini shelf that doubles up as a device and drink holder. The seats are also much thinner and likely less comfortable — a common trend among airlines these days.

Frontier Confirms Inaugural First Class Flight, At-Seat Charging

In a memo leaked to View from the Wing, Frontier confirms March 5, 2027, as the inaugural flight date for its new first class. The retrofit program will start at the end of October. Tickets for Frontier’s new first class are on sale now and will continue to be sold as UpFront Plus seats during the retrofit.

Frontier also confirms that at-seat charging will be added to all seats during the cabin makeovers.

Turkish Airlines’ New Business Class Launches Soon

First announced in 2024, Turkish Airlines has confirmed that its new Crystal business class suite should take to the skies by the end of November 2026. The cabin will debut on newly delivered Airbus A350-900s, the aircraft that it sends on several of its 14 U.S.-bound routes. While no specific routes have been mentioned, there’s a high chance these new planes and fresh business class will be stateside before the end of the year.

The Airbus A340-600 Took Its Final Flight

Lufthansa‘s only remaining Airbus A340-600 made its final passenger flight from Washington D.C. (IAD) to Frankfurt (FRA) this week. The German flag carrier was the last major commercial airline in the world to still operate the 4-engine jet. Fondly nicknamed “The Pencil,” it retires as airlines, including Lufthansa, replace older, less fuel-efficient, and more costly aircraft with newer models like variants of the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

United’s New Short-Haul and Domestic Routes for Summer 2027

United has added 4 new routes in a schedule update. There’ll be 3 domestic services from San Francisco (SFO) and a new international route from Chicago (ORD) to Bermuda (BDA). When it launches on April 3, 2027, United will be the only airline operating the Chicago-Bermuda route. The table below shows important details about each route.
