American Airlines has launched the “Exchange,” a new platform that allows AAdvantage members to use miles to purchase products from more than 100 brands.

Now, in addition to booking travel, AAdvantage members have another way to redeem miles. But is using your miles this way a good deal?

Let’s take a look at the details of this new platform.

American Airlines Launches AAdvantage Exchange

American Airlines is following the lead of several other travel brands in launching a platform that allows its AAdvantage members to redeem miles for non-travel merchandise from over 100 brands. For example, JetBlue launched a new platform earlier today that offers members the ability to use points for both travel bookings and luggage on the same page.

The”AAdvantage Exchange” launched today, August 5, 2025, with over 4,800 products available on the new website, ranging from clothing to tech products to travel accessories.

Unlike some other retail platforms, such as The Shops at Chase, which was also recently launched and gives cardholders a consistent value of 1 cent per mile when redeeming for merchandise, the value of each AAdvantage mile you redeem for products varies based on the specific item as well as the level of your elite status within the AAdvantage program.

For example, you could purchase a Dyson Purifier Cool Gen1 TP10 air purifier and fan combo for 71,900 AAdvantage miles. The item retails for $429.99 on Dyson’s website, meaning you’d get a value of just 0.6 cents per mile.

Meanwhile, a 1.6-oz bottle of Burberry Weekend men’s cologne retails for $110 on Burberry’s website or 11,100 AAdvantage miles, yielding a value of just about 1 cent per mile.

Want an air fryer for your kitchen? You can purchase the Cuisinart Large Air Fryer Toaster Oven for 100,000 AAdvantage miles via the Exchange. It retails for $419.95 on Cuisinart’s site, meaning you’d get a value of just 0.4 cents per mile … which isn’t great.

Note, however, that the pricing I’m seeing is based on my AAdvantage account with no elite status whatsoever. The per-mile value may be slightly better for someone with elite status, but it’s unlikely you’ll match our valuation of 1.4 cents per AAdvantage mile when redeemed this way.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

While having more ways to redeem your points and miles is always appreciated, you’ll rarely get even a decent value when redeeming them for merchandise like this.

Our recommendation is always to use your miles to book travel. If you follow the right strategy, you can often achieve a value far greater than our average valuations for any given program.
