American Airlines is expanding its Bahamas network with a new route that will make reaching Bimini easier than ever. Starting in February, the carrier will offer the only nonstop service from the U.S. to Bimini (BIM), a small island paradise just 50 miles off Florida’s coast.

The new route fills a gap in air service to Bimini, which has only been accessible by ferry or limited regional flights until now.

Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new route.

American Expands Bahamas Network With New Miami–Bimini Service

Today, U.S. travelers can reach Bimini in just a few ways: sailing from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on Balearia Caribbean’s ferry or flying with niche carriers such as Aztec Airways from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) or Jetways Airlines from Nassau (NAS).

However, beginning February 14, 2026, American Airlines will offer the only nonstop flights from Miami (MIA) to Bimini, providing unmatched convenience for both locals and visitors.

The carrier will operate round-trip service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays using Embraer 175 aircraft, which feature a premium cabin. Because Miami is a major hub for American Airlines, customers can easily connect to Bimini from more than 80 destinations across the U.S. and Canada.

For travelers, that means easier access to Bimini’s North and South islands, where experiences range from relaxing at beachfront resorts to snorkeling among vibrant marine life, swimming with dolphins in the open waters, or trying their luck at world-class big-game fishing.

Bimini will become American’s seventh destination in the Bahamas, further strengthening its position as the largest U.S. airline in the market.

This winter, American is planning more than 30 peak daily flights to the islands, including exclusive service to Governor’s Harbour (GHB) and Freeport (FPO). The airline is also boosting holiday frequencies to Marsh Harbour (MHH) and North Eleuthera (ELH) to meet strong demand.

Hot Tip:

With American adding this new route, redeeming AAdvantage miles could be a smart way to book. Short-haul flights like Miami to Bimini are typically offered at reasonable rates, making this an affordable redemption for a quick Bahamas getaway.

Final Thoughts

American’s move to launch nonstop service from Miami to Bimini opens up the island to a much wider audience. For South Floridians, it’s now just a 30-minute flight to paradise. For travelers connecting through Miami, it means skipping ferries or complicated routings and getting straight to the beaches, clear waters, and adventures that make Bimini so special.
