American Airlines and Porter Codesharing Details

American Airlines has entered into a codesharing agreement with Porter Airlines, allowing customers to book codeshare itineraries on aa.com and flyporter.com.

American flyers will earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points for their Porter flights. For its part, Porter says it is exploring “future VIPorter loyalty integration” for American customers.

American will place its code on Porter’s flights between Toronto (YYZ) and Phoenix (PHX), while Porter will code American flights in the U.S. south and West Coast, offering more connections to the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

The 2 airlines say they will continue to evaluate the partnership to offer “expanded codeshare destinations and loyalty benefits.” That could lead to reciprocal benefits for elite members and lounge access, which aren’t available at this time.

About Porter Airlines

It’s been an exciting year for one of Canada’s largest airlines.

If you aren’t familiar, Porter Airlines was founded in 2006. The airline operates a fleet of Embraer E195-E2 and De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft, serving a network of over 40 destinations in North America from Eastern Canada.

The airline announced several new routes over the summer, including its first flights outside of Canada and the U.S., with new routes to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Porter is also growing in the U.S., with new routes to Florida and the New York region announced in recent months.

Bottom Line:

Porter Airlines also has an agreement with Alaska Airlines, allowing customers to enjoy reciprocal benefits between the 2 carriers. Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards members can earn points on Porter flights, and Porter VIPorter members can earn rewards on Alaska flights.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is entering a codesharing agreement with Canada’s Porter Airlines, making it much easier to connect across Eastern Canada. AA customers connecting on to Porter flights will also benefit from the ability to earn AAdvantage miles (which they can then redeem) and Loyalty Points on trips they couldn’t do so previously.
