American Express recently made some interesting changes to the American Express® Business Gold Card, shaking up the bonus categories and adding new statement credits and perks.

Now, those changes are fully live for new and existing cardholders!

The card is now even available in Rose Gold, like its personal American Express® Gold Card counterpart.

Here are the details on everything you need to know about the refreshed Amex Business Gold card and whether it’s worth the annual fee of $375 (rates & fees).

Amex Business Gold Card New Bonus Categories

Amex Business Gold card holders now earn 4x points on your top 2 spending categories each billing cycle, on up to $150,000 in spending each year:

  • Transit purchases, including trains, taxis, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways
  • U.S. purchases made from electronic goods retailers, plus software and cloud system providers
  • Monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the U.S.
  • U.S. purchases at gas stations
  • U.S purchases at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • Purchases at U.S. media providers for advertising in select media

The major change here is that you can no longer earn 4x points on U.S. shipping purchases.

In addition, cardholders will earn 3x points on flights, prepaid hotels, and prepaid flight + hotel packages booked through AmexTravel.com, and 1x points on all other eligible purchases.

Amex Business Gold Card New Statement Credits and Benefits

Previously, the Amex Business Gold card did not offer any statement credits.

Now, you receive up to $240 back annually ($20 per month) for eligible purchases at FedEx, Grubhub, and office supply stores (enrollment required).

Plus, cardholders earn up to $155 back annually for a Walmart+ subscription. This amounts to up to $395 in statement credits each calendar year (enrollment required).

Further, the Amex Business Gold card has added cell phone insurance protection to double up with the 4x rewards you’ll earn on your cell phone bill. The insurance will cover up to 2 claims per year with up to $800 for each claim against theft and damage, including cosmetic damage.

Additional Amex Business Gold Card Changes

While new perks are being added, the 25% airline bonus when using Pay With Points has now been removed from the card. That said, you can still receive this benefit with The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, where you’ll receive an even better 35% airline bonus.

In addition to the new Amex business gold bonus categories, up to $395 in statement credits, and new benefits, the annual fee for the card has now increased to $375. Given that, you’ll want to make sure these new perks and benefits are worth more to you than the additional $80 fee for the card.
