New airlines are always exciting news, and even more so when they offer flights to exciting destinations.

Low-cost Arajet, a Dominican Republic start-up airline, has just announced its first U.S. flights, set to begin in 2025. Let’s take a look.

New Flights to the Dominican Republic in 2025

Arajet, based in the Dominican Republic, will start flights to 3 U.S. cities in 2025: New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), and San Juan (SJU).

The airline will start flights from those cities from Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Punta Cana (PUJ) in the second quarter of 2025. No exact date has been mentioned, but the airline said it has received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to commence operations.

Arajet said ticket sales will begin once it receives final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“These routes will open more travel to the U.S., a very important market for the Dominican Republic, and our low-fare flights will provide new opportunities to grow tourism and business,” said Arajet CEO Victor Pacheco. “We’re eager to welcome American travelers and its diaspora communities to the Dominican Republic and further establish the country as an exciting hub connecting to 16 countries in the Americas.”

Given its low-cost model, Arajet should offer competitive pricing. However, it’ll likely be an uphill battle, considering how many established airlines already fly to and from the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is one of the most popular international destinations for U.S. travelers. Naturally, many U.S. airlines, such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue Airways, fly to the country.

What To Know About New Low-Cost Airline Arajet

Arajet is an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) based at Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo. We covered Arajet’s intention to start flights back in 2022; the airline has offered flights around Latin America and Canada since its founding.

Arajet flies the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to 23 destinations in 16 countries. Interestingly, the airline operates several long-haul routes, such as Punta Cana to Buenos Aires (EZE) on the MAX, which is a narrow-body aircraft.

Hot Tip:

Arajet is an ultra-low-cost airline that keeps prices low by passing on ancillary costs to the customer. The airline offers 3 fare types: smart, comfort, and extra. A smart fare gets you little more than a personal item and the ability to check in online.

Final Thoughts

Arajet, the low-cost airline based in the Dominican Republic, plans to start flights to the U.S. next year. This is pretty exciting news, as travelers will have more low-cost options to travel to Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. We hope Arajet expands to other U.S. cities in the near future!
