It’s been a busy day for low-cost Avelo Airlines. The budget airline has announced a sweeping expansion of its operations at its Connecticut and Central Florida bases and has launched its first-ever international service.

This is big news for the airline, so let’s check out the latest from Avelo.

Avelo Adds Cancun, Montego Bay Flights

Avelo has announced 18 new nonstop routes from several of its hub airports beginning this fall.

The airline will add routes from Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL), Lakeland International Airport (LAL) in Central Florida, Charlotte Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), and Wilmington Airport (ILG).

Of note, the new routes will also see a first for Avelo: international service. The airline will add service to Montego Bay (MBJ) and Cancun (CUN) from Hartford. Avelo will fly its Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft on all of the routes, and most routes will operate 2x weekly.

Avelo called the expansion “the most substantial” in the budget airline’s 3-year history.

“Adding more airplanes and destinations, I am very excited about the momentum and growth we are seeing across our business,” said founder and CEO Andrew Levy. “And with three consecutive profitable quarters, Avelo is positively positioned for even more growth in the future across our network.”

Avelo is celebrating the launch of these new routes with a flash sale starting at $52 one-way for the domestic routes and $134 for the international routes.

To keep fares low, Avelo passes on ancillary purchases to the customer, similar to basic economy on other airlines. That means you’ll pay extra for baggage, seat selection, or snacks.

While Avelo doesn’t have a rewards program or credit card, you can still earn points for your purchases with the airline. All you have to do is book your flight using a travel credit card to maximize flight purchases. Here are some of the best travel cards:

Final Thoughts
