Starting in May, American Airlines won’t be the only carrier flying nonstop between Dallas and Bogotá, Colombia. Avianca will start flying this route, adding competition and additional seats for passengers 4 times a week.

Here’s what you should know about the newest route from Colombia’s flag carrier.

Avianca’s New Route Between Dallas and Bogotá

Right now, American Airlines is the only airline offering nonstop service between Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Bogotá (BOG). That will change on May 26, 2025, when Avianca will start running this route with an Airbus A320 aircraft.

“We continue to strengthen connectivity across the Americas, offering our customers more options to travel directly between the United States and Colombia,” said Rolando Damas, Avianca’s sales director for North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Avianca will fly nonstop between the 2 cities 4 times per week. With capacity for 180 passengers per flight on its A320, Avianca will offer 1,440 seats weekly on this route.

Beginning May 26, the flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays according to the following schedule:

  • AV188: Depart Bogotá (BOG) 7:30 a.m. — Arrive Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) 1:20 p.m.
  • AV189: Depart Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) 2:50 p.m. — Arrive Bogotá (BOG) 8:15 p.m.

How To Book

Flights for this new route are available from Avianca’s website, though we don’t see them in Google Flights yet. The cheapest rates start at $238 per person on a one-way booking from Dallas to Bogotá. However, that doesn’t include checked luggage or seat selection.

Flights are also available using Avianca LifeMiles, which cost 6,300 miles plus $63 per person in economy — or just 5,670 miles if you have a LifeMiles+ subscription.

Earning LifeMiles is easy, as you can transfer numerous currencies to LifeMiles at a 1:1 ratio. Options include American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One miles, Citi ThankYou Points, and Wells Fargo Rewards.

We don’t see these awards available yet with Avianca’s Star Alliance partners. However, you should soon find these tickets available using programs like United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, ANA Mileage Club, and more.

Final Thoughts

Avianca has decided to challenge American Airlines on a route between the 2 airlines’ hubs, starting flights between Dallas and Bogotá on May 26.

Avianca will operate these flights 4 times per week, and they’re on sale now through Avianca’s sales channels. They should be available for partner awards soon, providing additional options for paid and redemption flights to Colombia — or onward into South America.
