If you hold the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card, there’s an important change coming that will impact the amount of points you can earn. Starting October 1, 2024, you’ll only be able to earn 1,000 Bilt bonus points on Rent Day as part of the monthly double points promotion.

What Is Rent Day?

Bilt classifies the first of every month as “Rent Day,” and to celebrate, Bilt Rewards offered double points on all purchases (except rent) for cardholders, up to 10,000 bonus points earned. This means you could essentially spend $10,000 of non-bonused spend on the first of the month to receive 10,000 Bilt points, plus an additional 10,000 bonus points due to the Rent Day promotion. The sole requirement has been making at least 5 transactions on your Bilt Card each billing cycle to earn points (See Rewards & Benefits).

What’s Changing?

Bilt sent out an email to cardholders on July 26, 2024, highlighting the change: “A note for members with the Bilt Mastercard®, starting on October 1, 2024, the Double Points on Bilt Mastercard offer maximum will be updated to 1,000 points per Rent Day.”

This language was buried in Bilt’s monthly Rent Day promotional email, so clearly, Bilt wanted to hide this massive change from cardholders. What this essentially means is that you’ll only be able to maximize this promotion for a maximum of $1,000 in spend on Rent Day, depending on your spending categories. You’ll earn 1,000 base points and then an additional 1,000 bonus points. Keep in mind that rent does not factor into this number and earns points separately from traditional purchases.

Hot Tip:

To maximize the amount of points you can earn with Bilt, set recurring expenses to charge on the first of each month so you don’t forget.

This is a massive devaluation for Bilt, as many consumers would front-load expenses on the first of each month to earn the most points. Now, there’s no longer an incentive to do this.

We reached out to Bilt to provide comment about this change and ask for any further details cardholders need to know. On July 30, 2024, a Bilt spokesperson responded to confirm that the limit is 1,000 bonus points (additional points), not 1,000 points overall.

Moreover, Vice President of Travel for Bilt Rewards Richard Kerr shared this statement on X: “Less than <2% of members cross 1k bonus points on rent day. By making this update, we are able to fund the full base points + all the bonus points for 98% of our members, while enabling us to invest in new rent day benefits like transfer bonuses and rent day experiences. We know there’s no perfect solution – but we want to ensure we give the most value to the most members possible.”

Final Thoughts

If you’re a Bilt Cardholder, after October 1, you won’t be able to earn up to 10,000 bonus Bilt points as part of Rent Day. That number goes down substantially to 1,000 bonus points — a real killer for those who would spend considerably on the first of each month with the Bilt Card. That said, be sure to maximize what you can on the first of the month so you can still earn what bonus points you can.
