We may be compensated when you click on product links, such as credit cards, from one or more of our advertising partners. Terms apply to the offers below. See our Advertising Policy for more about our partners, how we make money, and our rating methodology. Opinions and recommendations are ours alone.

Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

British Airways is running an award bonus where if you transfer hotel points in from 4 of its hotel transfer partners, you’ll receive a 25% bonus on Avios from the transaction. While converting hotel points to airline miles is generally a bad deal, this offer may be worth taking advantage of for some.

The Offer

Until April 25, 2022, you can convert hotel loyalty points from select partners into British Airways Avios, and then receive a 25% bonus on points converted:

Hotel Loyalty ProgramConversion RatioMinimum To TransferReceive With Bonus
IHG One Rewards5:110,000 Points2,500 Avios
Marriott Bonvoy3:19,000 Points3,750 Avios
Radisson Rewards or Radisson Rewards Americas10:12,000 Points250 Avios
World of Hyatt2.5:15,000 Points2,500 Avios

To take advantage of the transfer, you simply need to follow the normal transfer process set out by the hotel brand. There’s no extra work you need to do; the bonus points will post automatically.

Both Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt provide a bonus if you transfer a certain number of points (5,000 Avios when transferring 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and 5,000 Avios when transferring 50,000 World of Hyatt points), so be sure to take advantage of these already built-in bonuses to maximize the offer. For example, 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transfer into 25,000 Avios instead of 20,000 Avios, which equals 31,250 Avios with the bonus offer.

Terms

Here are some terms you should be aware of:

  • The 25% bonus may take 4 to 6 weeks to show up on your account, so if you’re looking to redeem instantly, you’ll have to wait a bit.
  • Once you transfer your hotel points into Avios, you can’t transfer them back, so be sure you’re only transferring what you need.

In the vast majority of cases, transferring hotel points to Avios continues to be a bad idea, even with the bonus. The only exception to this would be with Marriott Bonvoy as the loyalty program is inherently designed to allow for airline transfers as a routine benefit.

Hot Tip: Looking for another way to top off your Avios balance? Consider the 40% bonus when you transfer your Amex Membership Rewards points to British Airways Executive Club Avios through May 15, 2022.

Final Thoughts

While this offer won’t make sense for everyone, having a transfer bonus is always something to consider since you’ll end up with more Avios than normal. British Airways Avios have a lot of different uses, so building up your Avios balance is definitely a great way to get a head start on future award travel.
