If you’re looking to buy Finnair Avios and save money along the way, there’s good news. You can buy Finnair Avios with up to a 40% discount right now.

Given Finnair’s adoption of Avios in early 2024, this also provides a way to purchase Avios with British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways, and Aer Lingus.

Should you buy? Let’s check out the details.

Buy Finnair Avios — Promotion Details

Finnair offers sales on Avios with some regularity, switching between discounts and bonus Avios on these sales.

The current offer promotion, which ends on June 30, 2025, allows you to purchase Avios with up to a 40% discount, bringing your purchase price down to about 1.46 cents per Avios if you maximize the offer.

This pricing is valid whether you’re buying Avios for yourself or gifting them to another Finnair Plus member, and you’ll get a better discount the more Avios you buy:

  • Buy 0 to 4,999 Avios without a bonus
  • Buy 5,000 to 19,000 Avios, get a 25% discount
  • Buy 20,000 to 49,000 Avios, get a 30% discount
  • Buy 50,000 to 74,000 Avios, get a 35% discount
  • Buy 75,000 or more Avios, get a 40% discount

If you maximize this promotion, you can purchase up to 200,000 Finnair Avios. After adding the 40% discount, you’ll get 200,000 Avios for €2,520 (~$2,918). That’s 1.46 cents per Avios, which is better than the last sale that provided Avios at 1.69 cents apiece. The best price we’ve ever seen for buying Finnair Avios was 0.7 cents apiece, however, and who knows when or if that might return.

Note that the terms of this offer state that purchased Avios may take up to 3 days to appear in your Finnair Plus account. Also, to get the discount, you must have joined the Finnair Plus program before June 2, 2025, and you must have at least 500 Avios in your account.

Is It Worth It?

While we would never recommend purchasing miles speculatively (thanks to seemingly constant and unannounced program devaluations), this can represent a fairly good deal. Finnair’s award chart allows you to redeem 62,500 Avios for a one-way business class flight from the U.S. East Coast to Finland.

You could purchase 63,000 Avios for about $1,043 after the 35% discount. Considering these flights often cost over $3,000, you’ll save a lot by buying Avios here.

Other valuable uses of Finnair Avios include flights within Northern Europe, upgrades on discounted Finnair cash tickets, and transcontinental flights within the U.S.

Hot Tip:

Purchases of Finnair Avios are processed by Points.com, meaning they won’t count as airfare purchases on your credit card. If you’re buying Avios, you’ll get the best earnings by paying with a solid credit card for everyday spending or putting these purchases on a new credit card with a welcome bonus.

Is It Worth It?

For those looking to stock up on Finnair Avios, this sale can present an attractive option — though it’s not quite as good as some of the best prices we’ve seen for Avios. This sale also might be attractive if you want Avios to use with British Airways Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Club Iberia Plus, or Aer Lingus AerClub. That’s because you can transfer Avios freely and instantly across these programs.

However, there are other ways to earn Finnair Avios instead of buying them. You can transfer Capital One miles to Finnair at a 1:1 ratio, and transfers should be immediate. With this transfer option and the ability to transfer from other Avios programs, any credit card earning nearly any type of transferable points should help you accrue Finnair Avios without needing to buy them.

However, if you’ve exhausted other sources and have a redemption in mind, buying Finnair Avios can make sense if it’s cheaper than buying the flight with cash.

Final Thoughts

It doesn’t always make sense to purchase points and miles, but it can make sense if you just need to top off your account for a redemption or if the cost of buying Avios for an award flight is cheaper than buying the flight directly. If you’re interested in this sale, you can buy Finnair Avios with up to a 40% discount through June 30.
