You may know Death & Co as a bar in Manhattan’s East Village, which opened right around the time cocktails were having a revival moment in 2006. Death & Co has since expanded to 4 locations around the United States, from Los Angeles to Denver to Washington, D.C., and has created Fashioned, an online cocktail education resource that helps you master the art of cocktails without leaving your home.

The Citi Strata Elite℠ Card includes a complimentary membership to Fashioned as one of its many benefits. Here’s what you need to know and how you can take advantage of this perk.

Death & Co Fashioned Citi Benefit: What Is It?

Fashioned memberships normally cost a few hundred dollars annually, and include benefits like cocktail recipe database access, online cocktail courses, access to special events, and reservations at all of Death & Co’s physical bar locations, among other perks.

However, if you’re a Citi Strata Elite card cardholder, you get access to Death & Co Fashioned’s online content and tutorials for free.

What Is Included With the Citi x Death & Co Fashioned Benefit?

A Fashioned membership includes the following content:

  • Full access to the education platform, including all online courses
  • Access to the members-only community hub
  • Access to the recipe database, cocktail batching tools, and more
  • Participation in virtual sessions, like tutorials and AMAs (coming soon)
  • Access to blog posts and city guides (coming soon)
  • Invites to members-only ticketed in-person events at Death & Co and Close Company locations
  • Priority and early access to special events, such as New Year’s Eve, marketplace drops, and preopening events
  • Reservations access at all Death & Co and Close Company locations

Fashioned memberships are for adults ages 21 and older, and they normally cost between $20 to $30 per month or $200 to $300 annually if you don’t have a Citi Strata Elite card.

How To Sign Up for the Complimentary Fashioned Membership as a Citi Strata Elite Cardholder

If you already have the Citi Strata Elite card, you can easily access this complimentary benefit. Head to the Citi/Fashioned landing page, and click where it says “Unlock Access.” You have to enter in some of your credit card information (the first 6 numbers of your Citi Strata Elite card confirms your eligibility) and set up your login credentials, and then you’ll have access to your own Fashioned account.

Note that if you enter a Citi card number in Fashioned that’s not the Citi Strata Elite card, your access won’t be free, according to the partnership’s terms and conditions.

My Experience Using Death & Co Fashioned as a Citi Cardholder

Signing up for the benefit was simple and took just a few moments. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what Fashioned actually was — it took some time surfing around the website for me to understand what was offered (“resources” means recipes, and “courses” means … courses).

I then stumbled on the Citi x Death & Co landing page, which helped me understand more about what I had access to as a cardholder (pretty much everything on the site, which is cool).

I’ll be 100% honest here, when it comes to my interest in cocktails, it’s fairly low, because I rarely drink them (although I did hang out at the original Death & Co location during my millennial nightlife days when I lived in New York City from 2006 to 2008). That said, I love to host small gatherings and intimate parties at my apartment in Madrid, and whipping up a a cool signature cocktail for guests is something I’d enjoy mastering.

Courses

There are many courses available, but the ones I found most intriguing were the Spirits Introduction courses and, as a beginner in the world of cocktails, the Foundations and Fundamentals courses.

Hot Tip:

Note that when you starting watching a course video, you get a confirmation email with a receipt of your order. Don’t panic, though, as it’ll say “no charge” and that the total amount is $0.00, thanks to your Citi Strata Elite card’s complimentary membership.

Articles and Products

Some of the articles appealed to me as I set up my cocktail station at home — most specifically, the one on essential glassware for a home bar. And while the prices of purchasing Death & Co products aren’t included, I did browing the Death & Co Market, admiring the bar tools, drinkware, and coffee table books.

Cocktail Recipes

Fashioned cocktail recipe database is massive, though it did take me a moment to discover where it was (look under the Resources tab at the top of the homepage). I appreciated being able to search for a specific cocktail or filter cocktails by elements like base spirit, style, and flavor.

I found one I’d like to offer at a party I’m hosting soon, the Adonis, which living in Spain, is perfect: It includes oloroso sherry, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters. I’m able to open the recipe, print or save it, favorite it, or send it to a batching calculator. I can also easily switch measurements from ounces to milliliters, which is helpful, since I live abroad.

Other things I really love about this card are its statement credits, like the up-to-$200 Splurge Credit (I tend to use it for American Airlines and Best Buy), the up-to-$300 hotel credit in Citi Travel, and the up-to-$200 Blacklane credit.

The 4 passes to American Airlines Admirals Club are extremely beneficial (especially since the Admirals Club has recently raised its membership rates), and the card is also how I get Priority Pass lounge access for myself and my family, as it includes bringing in 2 guests.

I find Citi ThankYou Points extremely valuable, mainly thanks to their flexibility (Citi has over 20 transfer partners). I can earn them quickly, given the card’s high bonus rates, and I tend to transfer to them to partners such as American Airlines or Flying Blue.

Final Thoughts

Unless you’re a major cocktail aficionado, I don’t think the Citi Strata Elite card’s Death & Co Fashioned benefit on its own makes the case for getting the card — but it’s another cool perk of a card that offers some other valuable benefits that can save you money and make your travels easier.

I, for one, am most excited about this card’s many statement credits and lounge benefits, but being able show off my newly honed bartending skills thanks to the complimentary Fashioned membership is definitely an added bonus.
