The Citi Strata Elite℠ Card is a top card in my wallet, thanks to its many easy-to-use statement credits and the fact that it earns valuable Citi ThankYou Points I can transfer to partners such as American Airlines.

But there’s a little-known perk of the card that actually has to do with when you apply for it. Many of the card’s perks are tied to the calendar year, meaning you can double-dip on some of the perks, getting added value from the card if you apply now or before the end of 2026.

Here’s exactly why you should apply for the card before the year is up and what benefits you can take advantage of twice.

1. Hotel Credits: Get up to $600 Instead of up to $300

The Citi Strata Elite card features an annual hotel benefit of up to $300 off a hotel stay of 2 nights or more when booked through Citi Travel. You don’t have to enroll; just apply the credit when booking your stay.

I applied for the card shortly after it launched, in August 2025, and I was able to benefit from using the $300 hotel credit in 2025 and again in 2026.

If you get the card before the end of 2026, you can book and pay for your stay using the credit. Your stay can be at any time (it doesn’t have to be in 2026), but you must book and pay for the stay in 2026. Then, on January 1, 2027, this credit will reset, and you can use it again through the end of 2027, regardless of when your annual fee renews.

This means you get the credit twice during your first year of card membership, essentially getting $600 in credit instead of $300.

2. Splurge Credit: Get up to $400 Instead of up to $200

The Citi Strata Elite card comes with up to $200 worth of Splurge Credits each calendar year. You can select up to 2 partners among the following brands at citi.com/splurgecredit: 1stDibs, American Airlines, Best Buy, Future Personal Training, and Live Nation. You can get the credit back bit by bit or all in one purchase.

During the first year of my card membership, in 2025, I used my credit entirely for one larger American Airlines purchase. Then, in 2026, I got money back at both Best Buy and American Airlines.

If you get the card before the year ends, make sure to immediately choose your 2 top brands when you get the card and spend ASAP so you can turn this $200 credit into $400 by using it again in 2027.

3. Blacklane Credit: Get up to $300 Instead of up to $200

The Blacklane credit is a little different. Blacklane is a luxury car service that operates in numerous countries and cities worldwide.

The credit comes in the form of 2 up-to-$100 credits per year: 1 credit for up to $100 between January and June, and the other for up to $100 between July and December.

Because we’re already in the second half of 2026, you’re able to use part of the credit, up to $100, between July and December. Then you can use the second credit of up to $100 in 2027: one in the first half of the year and the other during the second half of the year.

It’s important to know that you must pay for the ride once you take it, so in order to obtain the up-to-$100 credit in 2026, the ride must occur by the end of 2026, which is different from how the hotel credits function (for those, you’re charged upon booking, even if your stay is during the following year).

Hot Tip:

I’ve used the Blacklane credit 3 times now, and so have several staffers at Upgraded Points. We’ve had positive experiences around the world, including in destinations like Spain, Florida, Singapore, Beijing, and beyond. Even when things didn’t go as planned because of major flight delays for content contributor Juan Ruiz at Newark Liberty (EWR), he was still impressed with his Blacklane experience.

4. Admirals Club Passes: 8 Passes Instead of 4

The 4 annual Admirals Club Passes are one of my favorite perks of the card because not only has the Admirals Club membership cost increased significantly this year, but because of the annual fee of the only card that gets you a full membership, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard® (the annual fee is now $695).

Since I also have a Priority Pass membership (part of the Citi Strata Elite card’s many benefits) and can enter certain credit card lounges thanks to various other credit cards in my wallet, I don’t need a full Admirals Club membership. But having the passes is an excellent money-saving benefit that makes my airport experience better, especially at airports like Chicago O’Hare (ORD), where I often fly out of Terminal 3, which lacks Priority Pass lounges.

If you apply for the card now, you can technically get 8 passes when paying just 1 year of the annual fee: 4 passes to use by the end of 2026 (which can be easy if you’re traveling with a group, since each adult needs their own pass) and 4 passes to use in 2027.

Getting 4 passes to use between August and December 2025 was fantastic. I used them to enter, with my family, the Admirals Clubs in both Chicago O’Hare Airport and Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW), which made holiday travel much less stressful. I already used up the additional 4 passes for 2026 for a spring trip and a summer trip, so now I’ll have to wait for 2027 to get the next 4 passes.

Hot Tip:

Citi has a special relationship with American Airlines. It’s the only major credit card program where you can transfer points to American’s AAdvantage loyalty program (as well as 14 other airline partners and 5 hotel partners). With the Citi Strata Elite card, points transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

Waiting for a Higher Welcome Offer vs. Double-Dipping on Card Benefits

Currently, the Citi Strata Elite card has a generous welcome offer: Earn 75,000 bonus Points after spending $6,000 in the first 3 months of account opening..

However, this isn’t the card’s highest-ever offer. When the card first launched, it offered up to 100,000 Citi ThankYou Points in branches, and many consumers ended up getting the 80,000-point offer that was available online.

It’s true that the current welcome offer is lower, and we don’t know whether or when Citi will raise it again. Still, applying before the year’s end is worth it because you can obtain an additional $916 in value (up to $300 in hotel credits, up to $200 in Splurge Credits, up to $100 in Blacklane credits, and $316 in Admirals Club passes, which cost $79 apiece).

Waiting for an 80,000-point offer (which is 5,000 more Citi ThankYou Points than the current offer) may not be worth it if that doesn’t come before the end of 2027.

According to Upgraded Points’ valuations, Citi ThankYou Points are worth 1.6 cents each. That means 5,000 points are worth $80 and an additional 25,000 points are worth $400. That’s still nowhere near the value of $916, which is what you can get out of the additional credits if you apply for the card now and double-dip on the extra credits and benefits before the year ends.

Final Thoughts

Double-dipping can be one of the most valuable experiences in the points and miles world, and you double up perks and credits if you time things just right, at least when it comes to applying for the Citi Strata Elite card. If you apply now, you can get nearly $1,000 of added value if you know how to utilize and take advantage of the card’s calendar-year benefits.

Of course, it takes organization to ensure you take those Blacklane rides, book your hotels, use your Admirals Club passes, and shop at brands like Best Buy or American Airlines for that Splurge Credit. But if you do, you’ll definitely come out on top, even after paying the card’s $595 annual fee.
