Some exciting news from Delta Air Lines. The Atlanta-based carrier has announced a first: nonstop flights from its Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) hub to Copenhagen (CPH) in Denmark. Additionally, Delta will bring back service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Shanghai (PVG) next summer.

Here’s what to know!

Delta Launches Flights From 2 U.S. Cities

Delta will introduce flights between Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Copenhagen (CPH) for the first time, as it aims to increase service to Europe from its major hubs. And this destination also makes sense, given that Copenhagen is a major hub for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), which recently moved from Star Alliance to SkyTeam. Delta is launching service to a hub destination for its new partner.

Starting in May 2025, the airline will offer 3x per week service between the 2 cities. With the new route coming onboard, Delta will now offer nonstop flights to 7 European cities from Minneapolis.

The carrier will operate its Airbus A330-300 aircraft on this route. This 4-class cabin features Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin.

“This route creates an invaluable connection between two major SkyTeam partner hubs, providing unrivaled connectivity and travel options for customers traveling between Scandinavia and North America,” said Joe Esposito, senior vice president of network planning.

That’s not all from Delta.

The airline also has plans to resume service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG) next June, bringing the number of U.S. nonstop flights to China to 17. Delta will fly the route 3x per week.

Flights on the relaunched route to Shanghai will be operated on the Airbus A350-900, which features Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin experiences.

How To Book

Unfortunately, as of this writing, we don’t see flights to either city loaded on Delta’s website. But that doesn’t mean you can’t start thinking about how to book flights with SkyMiles or with other programs like Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

While Delta does not use an award chart, and award prices can vary widely, its miles are incredibly easy to earn. The airline offers several co-branded credit cards, plus you can transfer points from Amex Membership Rewards or Marriott Bonvoy.

Booking Delta flights with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points offers many options, thanks to the program’s impressive 5 transfer partners:  Amex, Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Marriott.

Final Thoughts

This is fantastic news from Delta. The airline is boosting its presence in Europe with a new service to Copenhagen, which will be popular with travelers at MSP and in the Midwest. Delta will also restart flights from its Los Angeles hub to Shanghai, a highly-popular route. We are excited to see what other new or reestablished routes Delta will announce next.
