Delta Air Lines and LATAM have been joint venture (JV) partners for the last couple of years. Things seem to be going well between the 2 airlines, as they’ve just announced an expansion of their existing JV agreement to include destinations across Argentina.

Let’s take a look at the details of this partnership expansion and what it means for you.

Delta and LATAM JV Now Includes Argentina

After 2 years of partnership, Delta and LATAM have taken another step to deepen their cooperation by expanding their joint venture agreement to cover destinations in Argentina.

With this JV expansion, passengers departing Argentina can more easily access Delta’s vast North American network throughout the U.S. and Canada. They can earn miles in either the Delta SkyMiles or the LATAM Pass program on many more itineraries serviced by a combination of both airlines.

For Delta’s North American customers, this means that in addition to the reciprocal mileage earning mentioned above, they’ll have more (and easier) options for reaching cities beyond the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, on single tickets with likely fewer connections.

Primarily through its hubs in Lima, Peru (LIM), São Paulo, Brazil (GRU), and Santiago, Chile (SCL), LATAM serves several destinations across Argentina, including Buenos Aires (EZE and AEP), Córdoba (COR), Mendoza (MDZ), Río Gallegos (RGL), Rosario (ROS), Salta (SLA), and San Carlos de Bariloche (BRC), according to FlightConnections.

Further cooperation between the carriers means more enhancements to the reciprocal benefits that already exist. Delta SkyMiles members have been able to redeem SkyMiles on LATAM flights for a while, but “in the months ahead,” according to a press release from Delta, LATAM Pass members will be able to redeem LATAM Pass miles for Delta-operated flights.

Travelers who have elite status in either program will also be able to take advantage of more benefits on either carrier, such as the ability to visit Delta Sky Clubs and LATAM Lounges, priority check-in and boarding, more generous luggage allowances, and free seat selection.

Delta’s press release says that both airlines have secured approval from the Argentine government to move forward with their joint venture expansion in the country.

Final Thoughts

Delta and LATAM have become even closer now that their joint venture agreement covers destinations in Argentina. This development should make traveling between North and South America much more seamless for Delta and LATAM passengers originating on either side of the equator.

Additionally, continued integration of the 2 airlines should only make earning and redeeming miles and enjoying benefits before and during flights easier and easier.
