Delta Air Lines will begin offering its Premium Select product (the airline’s name for premium economy) on flights between New York and San Francisco this fall.

The move will help elevate the Atlanta-based carrier’s premium offerings on critically important transcontinental routes.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Delta Premium Select Coming to Select JFK-SFO Flights

Delta has long flown wide-body, internationally configured aircraft (usually Boeing 767s) on all of its flights between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) and on some frequencies to/from San Francisco (SFO), allowing the carrier to offer a premium product on critically important routes.

Delta has been retrofitting many of these 767s to get more modern interiors, including a dedicated premium economy cabin, known as Premium Select. In addition to the roomier, more comfortable seat, Premium Select comes with a range of other perks to elevate the experience, including hot meals, dedicated amenity kits, complimentary alcoholic beverages, and more.

Last year, Delta brought the full Premium Select experience to flights between New York and Los Angeles, and now it’s expanding it to San Francisco flights that are operated by wide-body aircraft (some frequencies are operated by single-aisle Boeing 757s).

As first reported by One Mile at a Time and confirmed by a Delta spokesperson, before the rollout of Premium Select to transcontinental routes, the seats themselves were sold as Comfort+ seats. You could pay a small upcharge for a much more comfortable seat, but you wouldn’t get any of the extra goodies.

Now, these will be sold as proper Premium Select seats, meaning Delta can charge more for them, and passengers will have the same experience if they booked a Premium Select seat on an intercontinental flight.

Delta says Premium Select will begin on SFO flights as of November 9, 2025. Remember, though, that it’s only available on flights operated by wide-body aircraft, so 757 flights will not offer it.

This is also good news for Delta’s Medallion members, who are eligible to receive upgrades from economy to Premium Select like they are for flights with domestic first class. For top-tier Diamond members, upgrades begin clearing 120 hours before departure, with added priority. Platinum members are eligible 120 hours out, Gold members 72 hours out, and Silver members 24 hours before departure.

Also, no matter where they’re seated, Medallion members are eligible to receive space-available, same-day upgrades to the Delta One cabin, though that’s an exceedingly rare occurrence these days.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

Delta is adding Premium Select to flights between New York and San Francisco in November. However, it will only be available on frequencies operated by wide-body aircraft, so make sure you double check the aircraft type before purchasing your tickets!
