Delta Adds Unlimited Name Changes and Service Points for Its SkyMiles Business Program

Delta announced a set of upgrades today for the top tier of its business loyalty program, SkyMiles for Business Elite.

The 2 features that travelers and business owners will care about most? Unlimited name changes and a new Service Points allocation, both arriving in early 2027. Delta also says every Elite customer will now get proactive annual outreach from a dedicated account team, instead of having to take the action to call in.

What’s Changing With SkyMiles for Business Elite?

Delta unveiled the updates at its annual SPOTLIGHT event for SkyMiles for Business Elite customers and agency partners. The company framed the announcement around 2 ideas: More proactive account support and more flexibility when business travel plans shift.

Starting in early 2027, Elite customers can make unlimited name changes on eligible tickets for a fee. That lets a company reassign a ticket from 1 employee to another when a meeting moves, a project changes hands, or the original traveler can’t go. Delta will also introduce Service Points next year, an allocation Elite customers can spend on name-change fee waivers, advance-purchase waivers, overbooking requests, and other servicing needs.

The proactive account management piece starts now. Every Elite customer will receive annual outreach from Delta’s SkyMiles for Business Solutions team to schedule a customized Account Review covering earning activity, redemption strategies, and benefit use. Previously, that engagement was mostly reactive and driven by customer inquiries.

The announcements build on Unused Ticket Transfer, which Delta launched in 2025, allowing Elite customers to move the value of unused tickets into a UATP account for future travel.

What This Means for Travelers

The people who’ll enjoy these changes are corporate travel managers and the frequent business flyers those programs support, not leisure travelers. If your company isn’t in the SkyMiles for Business Elite program, none of this applies to you.

For those who are covered, the flexibility upgrades matter most. Under the old setup, if a meeting slipped or a colleague suddenly needed to step in to handle a trip on someone’s behalf, that ticket often turned into wasted spend or triggered fees the agency had to sort out. Unlimited name changes give companies a way to keep the ticket’s value in play while making logistical changes.

The Service Points piece is significant because those waivers used to come from an agency’s own Service Point budget. Now, the Elite customer controls its own pot, removing a step from the process and reducing the back-and-forth among the traveler, the agency, and the airline.

However, there are some downsides.

First, none of the flexibility benefits are free. Name changes still carry a fee unless a customer burns Service Points to waive it, and Delta hasn’t disclosed how large the Service Points allocation will be, so it’s hard to say how far it stretches.

Second, the flexibility benefits don’t arrive until early 2027, so companies planning around them face a few months’ wait before they can actually use them.

The Account Reviews are the piece with immediate effect. Whether they deliver real value or just amount to a scheduled sales call from an account rep depends on the individual customer’s team. Companies with sophisticated travel programs already track their earning and redemption patterns closely. Smaller Elite customers, or those who haven’t optimized their program, are more likely to get something useful out of the annual check-in.
