Starting today, May 8, 2026, Emirates has made it easier to qualify for elite status in its Skywards loyalty program.

Not only has the carrier reduced elite-qualifying thresholds by 20%, but it’s also awarding Skywards members with a 20% bonus on award miles and Tier Miles earned from flying — though only for a limited time.

Here’s what you need to know and whether it’s worth taking advantage of this opportunity.

Emirates Makes It Easier To Qualify for Elite Status

From May 8 through August 31, 2026, Emirates has made it easier to qualify for Skywards elite status. During the promotional period, the airline has reduced the thresholds for each status level by 20%. Here’s what you’ll need to qualify through August 31:

  • Skywards Silver: 20,000 Tier Miles or 20 qualifying flights (reduced from 25,000 Tier Miles or 25 qualifying flights)
  • Skywards Gold: 40,000 Tier Miles or 40 qualifying flights (reduced from 50,000 Tier Miles or 50 qualifying flights)
  • Skywards Platinum: 120,000 Tier Miles and at least 1 premium cabin flight (reduced from 150,000 Tier Miles and at least 1 premium cabin flight)

On top of the reduced qualification thresholds, Emirates will also award a 20% bonus on redeemable Skywards miles and Tier Miles earned on one-way or round-trip flights taken between May 8 and August 31, 2026, on flights marketed and operated by Emirates or flydubai.

These will be awarded as bonus miles, calculated as 20% of the normal amount that would be earned for a given flight, and they vary based on route and specific fare class.

This move follows in the footsteps of competitor and rival Etihad, which has been offering its own fast-track to elite status for the last couple of months, and reflects the current state of commercial aviation. Carriers worldwide, especially those in the Gulf, have been hit hard by the ongoing war in Iran, increased fuel costs, and a pullback on flying.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re a frequent Emirates flyer, this is great news. You can qualify, requalify, or level up your status with reduced thresholds and bonus Tier Miles. However, if you don’t fly with Emirates often, elite status with the carrier isn’t likely top of mind, and thus, you shouldn’t make new plans just to take advantage.

That being said, there are certainly some valuable benefits to Skywards elite status, especially as you reach the higher tiers. If that’s in the realm of possibility, this promotion is definitely one to factor into your upcoming travel plans.

Final Thoughts

Emirates has joined Etihad in enticing flyers to pursue elite status amid the ongoing war that’s wreaking havoc on carriers worldwide, especially those in the Gulf region.

If Emirates Skywards elite status has been on your radar, and your travel plans allow it, now’s the time to go for it, thanks to reduced qualifications and bonus elite-qualifying miles. Just make sure you get your flights in before August 31.
