The Maldives is practically every travel lover’s dream destination. From secluded white-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters to opulent resorts with overwater villas, the Maldives is without a doubt a bucket-list trip.
Unfortunately, getting there — whether you’re using your points and miles or paying cash — can be quite pricey.
But, right now, you can snag premium economy tickets between New York and Malé, the Maldivian capital, at a great price!
Here’s what you need to know.
Fare Deal – Details
These flights are operated by American Airlines on the flight between New York (JFK) and Doha (DOH) and Qatar Airways on the flight to and from Malé (MLE).
This deal is actually a mixed-cabin itinerary, so you’ll fly in American’s premium economy on the long-haul leg between New York and Doha and then in Qatar’s economy cabin between Doha and Malé.
So while you won’t get to fly Qatar’s lauded Qsuite, the airline will still provide a comfortable ride for the relatively quick hop down to Malé.
Make sure to play around on Google Flights to find the best rates.
- Class: Premium economy
- Routes: New York to Malé
- Dates: February to April 2023
- Rates: As low as $1,420 round-trip
Bottom Line: When you book tickets at prices like these, you have to be flexible, and these are no exception. The cheapest tickets include long layovers in Doha.
Best Ways To Book
You can book this flight directly with American Airlines. You’ll be able to select your seat during the purchase for the legs operated by American, but you’ll have to call or otherwise wait for your ticket number to pick your seats for the legs operated by Qatar.
If you’d rather avoid the hassle and book directly with the airline, both The Platinum Card® from American Express (up to $500,000 in purchases per year) and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express earn 5x Membership Rewards points per $1 spent.
You can also use a card that rewards you for travel purchases, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which earns 3x Ultimate Rewards on all travel purchases, or the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, which earns 2x miles on all purchases, including travel (5x miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel).
Final Thoughts
Journeys between the United States and the Maldives frequently exceed 24 hours in total travel time, so being able to relax in a comfortable premium economy cabin for a fraction of the price should be a no-brainer.
If you’ve been dreaming of a trip to the Maldives, and you can travel between February and April of next year, make sure to book ASAP — these fares won’t last long!
