Update:

The following information has expired and is no longer available. The Dell credit changed on July 1, 2025, and is now structured as up to $150 in statement credits on U.S. purchases made directly with Dell, and earn an additional $1,000 statement credit after spending $5,000 or more on Dell purchases from July 1 to December 31, 2025, and each calendar year after that.

As 2024 quickly winds down, now’s the time to make use of an important credit on the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express before it expires.

The card offers up to a $400 Dell statement credit per calendar year, which is split into up to $200 from January to June and up to $200 from July to December upon enrollment. Since my husband and I both have the Amex Business Platinum card, we’ve saved a grand total of $800 on Dell purchases this year.

Here’s a closer look at what we bought and how we maximize this useful credit every single year.

How the Amex Business Platinum Card Dell Credit Works

While there are many great benefits of the Amex Business Platinum card, the one we’ll focus on in particular is the up-to-$400 Dell statement credit.

This credit is valid only on purchases made directly with Dell Technologies or at dell.com in the U.S. and U.S. territories where Dell Technologies is the merchant of record for the purchase. Gift cards don’t count.

While Dell hasn’t necessarily been on my regular shopping rotation, I quickly realized that the credit is an excellent way to buy electronics such as video games, smart watches, chargers, and Dell computers and accessories.

This year, I used my semi-annual Dell credits to buy a mirrorless camera and smart home gadgets. My husband and I have collectively saved $800 in 2024 alone.

Saving $400 Off a Canon Mirrorless Camera

For the past year, I’d been considering compact, full-frame mirrorless cameras for travel, but I didn’t want to pay full price. Then, I spotted a Canon EOS R8 camera that caught my interest on Dell’s website.

After comparing prices from other retailers, I decided to make the purchase since Dell’s prices were competitive. Additionally, I knew I could easily get $400 back using both of our Amex Business Platinum cards.

The camera cost us $1,839.17 after tax. However, I used both of our Amex Business Platinum cards to split the purchase and received $200 in statement credits for a final price of $1,439.17.

Smart Home Upgrades for 50 Cents

In the second half of the year, I didn’t have any high-cost items on my Dell wish list. However, I wanted to make the most of our credits while keeping my out-of-pocket expenses low.

Then, I found the perfect item. I needed to upgrade some of our thermostat sensors and wanted to add more outdoor cameras to our home, and Dell had perfect solutions for both — a 2-pack of smart thermostat sensors cost $99.99.

I had roughly $300 in credits left to use from both of our Amex Business Platinum cards, so I also purchased a 3 pack of outdoor battery-powered cameras for $269.99 (and it’s even further discounted at the time of writing!).

This 3-camera system was $269.99 but our Dell.com credit covered almost all of the cost. Image Credit: Dell.com

Including taxes, the total for the sensors and cameras was $400.50. By strategically splitting the payment across our two Amex Business Platinum cards, I received $200 in statement credits from each, bringing the final cost down to just $0.50.

How I Split Payments on Our Amex Business Platinum Cards

By splitting payments on a big-ticket purchase across 2 Amex Business Platinum cards, I was able to save $400 on a single transaction rather than $200 on 1 purchase and $200 on another. Fortunately, Dell allows for split payments at checkout.

With multiple payment methods enabled, I selected how much I wanted to apply to each card. (I also had the option to redeem American Express Membership Rewards points, which results in a poor value.)

Hot Tip:

Before completing your purchase, be sure to shop via Rakuten and check (and enroll in) any Amex Offers to see if you can unlock additional savings on Dell purchases. These offers might not always appear on your Amex Business Platinum card but could be available on other Amex cards, allowing you to take advantage of them by splitting payments as outlined above.

Planning My Dell Credits for 2025

I’ll have more credits to burn as soon as the clock strikes midnight in 2025, and I’m already considering what might be a good way to use them. Like this year, I’m likely to purchase something fun, then something practical.

For the January to June credit in 2025, I’m looking at arcade gaming machines, which start around $400 on Dell.com.

With my shopping credit for July through December in 2025, I’ll likely purchase more small electronic items, such as fast wall charging plugs.

Final Thoughts

The Dell credits on the Amex Business Platinum card made it simple to get a significant discount on a mirrorless camera and upgrade our smart home devices. Although I don’t regularly shop on Dell.com, I’ve found plenty of options that are a good use of my shopping credits.
