The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is back with its record-high 100,000-point welcome offer — and you may wonder if you qualify for it. Within the last year, Chase has made major changes to the bonus offer eligibility rules.

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the right moment to apply, this could be it. Here’s exactly how to apply, step by step, and how to check whether you’re eligible for these bonus points.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card’s 100K Welcome Offer

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is offering 100,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

That’s the highest bonus offer the card has ever offered. Even better, $5,000 spending requirement isn’t any higher than the spending requirement for the card’s previous offer — which was 75,000 bonus points — so applicants can now earn 25,000 extra points for the same amount of spending.

100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points is a significant amount of Ultimate Rewards points. They’re worth at least $1,250 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel.

However, 100,000 points are worth much more when transferred to airline and hotel partners. At Upgraded Points, we value Ultimate Rewards points at 2 cents each. That makes 100,000 points worth $2,000 for travel.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card Eligibility Rules in 2026

Chase updated its eligibility rules for the Sapphire family of cards within the last year, and the changes cut both ways.

The most important rule is that you can only earn a welcome bonus offer on each Sapphire card once per lifetime. If you’ve previously earned a welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you won’t be eligible for this 100,000-point offer — even if it’s been years since you had the card.

However, the changes could potentially open the door for more people. Previously, holding the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ would have blocked you from applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Under the updated rules, if you hold either of those cards but have never earned a Chase Sapphire Preferred card welcome offer, you may now be eligible to apply and earn the bonus offer. That’s a meaningful shift from how things worked before.

Beyond Sapphire-specific rules, you’ll also need to satisfy Chase’s broader credit card requirements. The most notable: You’ll want to be under Chase’s 5/24 threshold, meaning you’ve opened fewer than 5 new credit card accounts across all issuers in the past 24 months. And as with any travel rewards card, good to excellent credit gives you the best shot at approval.

Chase Ultimate Rewards

The application itself is straightforward. You’ll work through several sections:

  • Personal details: Your full name, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, and Social Security number.
  • Home address: You can select domestic or international and enter your street address, city, state, and ZIP.
  • Employment and income: Your employment status and total annual income from all sources.
  • Authorized user: You can add an authorized user at this stage if you want someone else to have access to the account.

Once all sections are complete, you’ll review and accept the application terms before submitting.

Before the hard credit check is processed, Chase will inform those who are not eligible for the 100,000-point welcome offer. If you come across this notice, you can exit the application without any credit score impact.

If you don’t come across any sort of message — then you should be in the clear to qualify for the welcome offer.

After you submit, Chase may approve you instantly or take a few days to review. If you don’t hear back right away, you can call the Chase reconsideration line to speak with a representative about your application.

Hot Tip:

It’s helpful to record your screen or take screenshots as you go through the application. If any issues come up later — a discrepancy in your application, a question from Chase, or a need to reference what you submitted — having a record can clear up details.

Final Thoughts

The limited-time welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is worth jumping on if you’re eligible and haven’t earned a welcome bonus offer on the card before.

The updated eligibility rules no longer exclude people who were locked out under the previous “1 Sapphire card” rule, though the rules lock out those who’ve already earned a bonus offer on this card.

If you meet the 5/24 threshold and can meet the spending requirement for the welcome bonus offer, the application process is fast and largely painless — and the rewards on the other side are hard to beat.
