Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

IHG One Rewards completely overhauled its loyalty program in 2022, and the overall changes are positive.

Along with the introduction of complimentary breakfast for select members, there’s also the ability to earn milestone awards for staying a certain number of nights.

Now IHG One Rewards is offering the opportunity to reach Gold Elite or Platinum Elite status even faster — and the promotion is quite generous.

Let’s take a look.

Promotion Details

Depending on how many nights you’re willing to stay, you can earn either Gold Elite or Platinum Elite status by taking advantage of this promotion.

Members must register for the challenge by April 30, 2023.

  • Stay 5 qualifying nights within 90 days of registration, and earn Platinum Elite status through December 31, 2024
  • Stay 2 qualifying nights before December 31, 2023, and earn Gold Elite status through December 23, 2024

Qualifying stays must be a minimum of 1 night booked directly with a rate of over $30 per night. Rewards nights or Points & Cash rates are not eligible.

If you manage to complete the challenge, you’ll hold your elite status until December 2024.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re at risk of losing your existing status or are tempted to take advantage of the benefits of elite status, this promotion is an excellent opportunity for a wide range of folks.

Gold Elite status is typically earned after staying 20 qualifying nights or earning 40,000 elite-qualifying points in a calendar year, so earning this status after just 2 nights is a no-brainer. Unique benefits of this status include a 40% bonus on points earned (14x total) and elite rollover nights.

Platinum Elite status is earned by staying 40 qualifying nights or earning 60,000 elite qualifying points in a calendar year, and can be achieved with this promotion after just 5 nights. Alternatively, you can get automatic Platinum Elite status by holding the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card (no longer open to new applicants), or United Club℠ Infinite Card.

Platinum Elite members enjoy benefits such as:

  • Room upgrades (when available)
  • Guaranteed room availability (when booking 72 hours in advance)
  • Reward night discounts
  • Welcome amenity at check-in
  • Early check-in (when available)
  • 60% bonus on points earned (16x total)

Hot Tip: This fast-track challenge also pairs nicely with an ongoing point-earning promotion, allowing you to earn 2,000 IHG One Rewards points every 2 nights you stay through April 14, 2023.

Final Thoughts

IHG One Rewards is doing its best to make its loyalty program more competitive with the likes of Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, and Marriott Bonvoy. At this point, it stands solidly somewhere in the middle.

This latest promotion can be a lucrative option for those who have upcoming travel and can swing the 2 to 5 nights for Gold Elite or Platinum Elite status. Just be sure to register first!
