JetBlue wants to fly to Venezuela for the first time ever. The new route, which still needs approval and a confirmed launch date, would mark a new chapter for the airline.

If the new route becomes a reality, JetBlue will fly between Fort Lauderdale and Caracas before the end of 2026.

“Fort Lauderdale continues to serve as JetBlue’s gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America, and we believe there is meaningful opportunity to expand our presence in the region with planned service to Caracas,” said Dave Jehn, vice president, network planning and airline partnerships at JetBlue.

Let’s look at what we know (and what we don’t) about this new plan.

JetBlue’s New Route to Caracas, Venezuela — What We Know

U.S. airlines are rushing to resume service to Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) in Maiquetía, just outside Caracas, Venezuela. American Airlines went first, flying out of Miami, and United was next, offering flights out of Houston.

Now, JetBlue wants to be the third carrier to offer service to Venezuela — something U.S. airlines weren’t allowed to do until recently. For JetBlue, this would be the first time it’s flown to the South American country.

Like the other 2 airlines, JetBlue is continuing the trend of launching service from a different airport than other carriers. JetBlue plans to fly from Fort Lauderdale (FLL).

The airline announced the plans on May 28, though they’re still subject to regulatory approval. The carrier hopes that approval happens in time to start flying the route later this year. If approved, JetBlue plans to fly its Airbus A320 planes on the route. These planes have complimentary Wi-Fi and personal entertainment screens at every seat.

What We Don’t Know

There are some very important questions that still need to be answered.

First, how often will the flight run: daily, once a week, or something else? Second, how much will it cost? Third, and importantly, what will the start date be?

Hot Tip:

JetBlue makes every seat available with points in its TrueBlue program, which could be a great way to save on your next flight, whether it’s to Venezuela or somewhere else.

Final Thoughts

JetBlue has filed paperwork to start flights between South Florida and Venezuela, but the approval timeline is unclear.

Until approval happens, there aren’t any firm details about when the flights will start, how often they’ll operate, or what they’ll cost. Whenever we know those details, we’ll be sure to provide updates.
