The Lufthansa Group has shared that it will install Starlink inflight Wi-Fi service on all of its member carriers starting this year. That means not just Lufthansa flights but also SWISS, ITA, and more.

“The Lufthansa Group is taking the next step and setting an essential milestone for the premium travel experience of our customers. Connectivity on board plays an important role today, and with Starlink, we are not only investing in the best product on the market, but also in the satisfaction of our passengers,” said Dieter Vranckx, chief commercial officer of the Lufthansa Group.

Let’s run through everything else you need to know about this exciting development.

The Lufthansa Group is gearing up to install SpaceX’s high-speed satellite Starlink inflight Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, which includes approximately 850 aircraft belonging to member carriers, including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss, ITA Airways, SWISS, and more.

The project scope includes existing aircraft and new deliveries. Lufthansa says the first Starlink retrofits will begin in “the second half of 2026,” and that the entire fleet should have the lightning-fast service by 2029. At this point, we don’t know which carriers will be the first to see Starlink and what types of aircraft we can expect to see it on this year, but Lufthansa has said it will share more details in the coming months.

Once the rollout begins, the service will be free for anyone who has a Miles & More Travel ID, which is available to register for at no cost.

The Lufthansa Group’s adoption of Starlink follows several other major European carriers, including British Airways, Iberia, and Air France, which are all in various stages of introducing Starlink to their fleets. However, with respect to Air France, for example, although it is part of the Air France-KLM group, no plans have been announced yet for Starlink to be installed on KLM or Transavia aircraft.

Elsewhere in the world, the list of carriers offering or committing to offer Starlink continues to grow. Now it includes airlines such as Emirates, Korean Air, Qatar Airways, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, SAS, JSX, and more.

So far, the only airline opting for the rival service, Amazon Project Kuiper, is JetBlue.

Final Thoughts

Starlink’s seemingly unstoppable airline takeover continues, with the Lufthansa Group being the latest airline conglomerate to announce adoption of the ground-like inflight Wi-Fi service.

While the rollout will certainly take some time, we’re pleased to see that it will be installed uniformly across all of the Lufthansa Group’s member airlines, which will surely provide a more consistent experience for flyers.

Something tells us we’ll continue to see even more airlines announce plans for Starlink adoption this year, and we consider that a win for flyers everywhere.
