Marriott Bonvoy announced on September 13, 2023, that it would open 3 brand-new hotels in a new planned city in Indonesia.

Here’s what you need to know.

3 Properties Coming to Indonesia’s “New Capital City”

Marriott is bringing 3 brands — Four Points by Sheraton, Westin Hotels & Resorts, and Tribute Portfolio — to Ibu Kota Negara Nusantara, a planned city in Indonesia.

Here’s a brief look at each property, though note that not much is known about them at this point:

  • Four Points by Sheraton in Nusantara: This hotel will have 300 rooms, an outdoor pool, and a gym.
  • The Westin in Nusantara: This hotel will have 200 rooms and suites, 3 restaurants, 3 bars and lounges, meeting rooms, a swimming pool, gym, spa, and kids club.
  • Tribute Portfolio in Nusantara: This hotel will have 150 rooms and suites, including a signature “destination” dining venue, a café, a pool bar, a lobby lounge, a gym, and a spa.

“This milestone signing underscores our commitment to strategically expand our footprint in Indonesia, and we are pleased to also support the local government’s efforts to accelerate the country’s economic transformation, especially with the designation of Indonesia’s new capital city in Nusantara,” said Ramesh Jackson, Area Vice President, Indonesia and Malaysia, Marriott International.

Bottom Line:

According to Marriott and Indonesian real estate developer PT. Pakuwon Jati Tbk, Ibu Kota Negara Nusantara is planned as a “smart forest city,” which comes as Indonesia has committed to achieving zero carbon emissions and 100% new and renewable energy by 2060.

Booking Marriott Bonvoy Hotels in Indonesia

While we don’t have an opening date for these 3 hotels, you still have options if you plan to visit Indonesia in the near future.

Marriott has a massive presence in Indonesia, with nearly 70 hotels spanning several brands. You’ll find many luxury hotels in Indonesia, such as The Ritz-Carlton, Bali (which can be booked for as few as 47,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night for dates this fall), and The St. Regis Jakarta, which starts at just 31,000 points per night this fall. Owing to the favorable conversion rate for U.S.-based travelers, you’ll also find affordable cash rates at luxury hotels across the country.

If you’d prefer to keep the cash in your pocket, though, earning Marriott Bonvoy points is relatively easy. The hotel chain offers several co-branded credit cards with significant welcome offers. You can then redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at hotels and resorts worldwide, including throughout Indonesia.

Additionally, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points and American Express Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

Marriott is planting its flag in a new planned city in Indonesia, with the announcement of 3 hotel brands. We don’t have many details on the hotels or the project at this point, but if you’re interested in visiting, make sure to check out our guide to flying to Indonesia with points and miles so you’ll be ready to make the trip when the time comes.
