It’s been a long time coming, but you can finally redeem your American Airlines AAdvantage miles for Oman Air flights, about a year after the small but well-regarded carrier officially joined the Oneworld alliance.

As its name would suggest, Oman Air is the flag carrier of Oman, a Gulf nation bordering the United Arab Emirates, home of Dubai’s Emirates and Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways.

Oman Air doesn’t have nearly the reach of the 2 UAE carriers, but it boasts a fantastic onboard product for long-haul flights and a top-notch ground experience at its Muscat (MCT) hub to match.

Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting development for U.S. flyers.

Redeem AAdvantage Miles for Oman Air Flights

It’s now possible to redeem American Airlines AAdvantage miles for Oman Air flights, which is great news for anyone who has a stash that needs to be put to use.

While Oman Air doesn’t offer nonstop service to the U.S., it does offer flights to major destinations in Asia, Europe, and the Indian Subcontinent. Many of these are operated by the carrier’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner equipped with lauded Apex Suites in business class. These aircraft are also equipped with a small first class cabin that raises the bar even more on the inflight experience.

If you’re planning a trip to these parts of the world, it could be worth finding a way to Muscat, maybe spending a few days there, and then booking an Oman Air flight — especially in business class — to your final destination.

Alternatively, if you find yourself in Europe, you can book a flight from one of the carrier’s destinations — Amsterdam (AMS), Frankfurt (FRA), Istanbul (IST), London (LHR), Milan (MXP), Munich (MUC), Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO), and Zurich (ZRH) — to Muscat, where you can either enjoy all the country has to offer or continue onward to a destination further afield.

The carrier serves numerous destinations across Southeast Asia, including Bangkok (BKK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Manila (MNL), Phuket (HKT), and Singapore (SIN), as well as major cities in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Let’s take a look at a few examples of what you can book.

Paris (CDG) to Muscat (MCT) for 42,500 AAdvantage miles and about $201 in business class on the Boeing 787:

London (LHR) to Muscat (MCT) for 62,500 AAdvantage miles and about $392 in first class on the Boeing 787:

Muscat (MCT) to Bangkok (BKK) for 25,000 AAdvantage miles in economy, 40,000 miles in business class, and 50,000 miles in first class on the Boeing 787. Taxes and fees cost just $36 on this route:

How To Earn AAdvantage Miles

Aside from flying with American or its partner airlines, there are numerous ways through which you can earn AAdvantage miles. The carrier offers several co-branded credit cards, and you can transfer Citi ThankYou Points to AA at a 1:1 ratio if you have an eligible Citi credit card. You can also transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to AAdvantage at a 3:1 ratio. Finally, you can also earn AAdvantage miles through online shoppingdining out, and other non-travel activities.
