Rio Hotel & Casino is Destination by Hyatt’s first hotel in Nevada and is reopening after the first phase of a $340 million renovation.

Here’s what you need to know about the newest Destination by Hyatt resort in Las Vegas — and how you can book with points.

Rio Hotel Joins Destination by Hyatt After Phase 1 of Renovation

The Rio Hotel & Casino is located right along the famed Las Vegas Strip. The resort is 15 minutes from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).

The first phase of construction saw renovations to the Ipanema Tower. Work included renovations to all 1,500 rooms and 6 new dining outlets, 220,000 square feet of renovated meeting and event spaces, 4 pools, and 500 slot machines. Phase 2 will include renovations to the Masquerade Tower guest rooms and other public spaces. Hyatt hasn’t mentioned when this phase will begin.

“We’ve not only reenergized the resort’s design and experience, but we’ve proudly honored its legacy as a quintessential Las Vegas icon, providing World of Hyatt members and global travelers with even more ways to immerse themselves in our destination’s fun, energetic and eclectic atmosphere,” said Rio CEO Patrick Miller.

Booking Rio Hotel & Casino With World of Hyatt Points

Rio Hotel & Casino has opened for guests. The resort is participating in the World of Hyatt loyalty program. That means you can earn and redeem your points, and you’ll want to spend World of Hyatt points here.

The resort is a Category 3 hotel, which is a fantastic deal for Las Vegas. Award nights here start at 9,000 per night (off-peak) and go up to 15,000 points per night on peak dates.

Cash rates start at around $140 per night, but note that you’ll incur a daily resort fee of $50. However, resort fees are waived on points stays for all members; they’re also waived on paid stays for top-tier Hyatt Globalist members.

If you’re low on Hyatt points, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio. The chain also has 2 co-branded credit cards, both offering sizable welcome bonuses and entry-level Hyatt Discoverist status.

Hot Tip:

Rio Hotel’s Category 3 status makes it an excellent candidate for using a Category 1-4 free night certificate. You can earn a certificate by participating in the Brand Explorer program, by staying 30 qualifying nights or earning 50,000 base points, or holding a consumer (personal) Hyatt credit card. You’ll also get credit for Brand Explorer, helping you earn a free night, if you’ve never stayed at a Destination by Hyatt property before.

Final Thoughts

With Hyatt’s partnership with MGM ending last year, World of Hyatt fans have been in need of points options in Sin City. Right now, there are just 3 Hyatt-branded hotels in the city, including the Rio, so this resort should be welcome news for Hyatt fans. Even better, the resort can be booked using points or a Category 1-4 certificate.
