It’s the end of the runway for Silver Airways.

The small regional carrier, based in Fort Lauderdale (FLL), was forced to cancel all future flights on June 11, 2025, due to ongoing financial issues.

“We regret to inform you that we are ceasing operations as of today, June 11, 2025,” the airline announced via a post on its Instagram page.

Here are the details.

Silver Airways Cancels All Future Flights

Only a few months after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of 2024, Silver Airways had to make the difficult decision to cease all operations. Notice was posted on the airline’s official Instagram today.

The carrier’s small fleet of 8 ATR jets will be grounded, and passengers will have to find alternative ways to travel.

Silver initially hoped that it would be able to continue regular operations while it went through the bankruptcy process. Originally, it planned to go through a complete financial restructuring and find additional investment to exit bankruptcy by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

Sadly, the airline was unable to find a buyer because of its crippling debts of around $400 million.

Similarly, Spirit Airlines recently declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It, too, plans to operate as usual while it goes through financial restructuring.

What To Do If You Have A Flight Booked With Silver Airways

Travelers with tickets booked for flights with Silver Airways are advised not to head to the airport. The first thing to do would be to contact your travel agency or credit card company to start the refund process.

Hot Tip:

Having valid travel insurance is just as important as having an ID or passport at the airport. You should never travel without it. Some credit cards even come with excellent travel insurance included as a benefit!

For those still wishing to travel, many of Silver’s routes around Florida and to the Caribbean are also operated by other airlines, such as Bermudair, JetBlue, and Frontier.

However, Silver was the only airline to offer flights on certain routes, like those from Fort Lauderdale to Key West (EYW) and Tallahassee (TLH), from Orlando (MCO) to Key West, and from San José, Puerto Rico (SJU) to St Kitts (SKB).

Final Thoughts

While it’s always sad to hear of an airline failing, Silver Airways’ demise won’t impact a majority of U.S. travelers, due to its limited route network. That won’t alleviate the frustrations for those with now-canceled flights in the next few days, but many of the routes that Silver operated are also operated by other airlines.
