Southern California is getting 2 new flights to Hawaii next year. In fact, the Golden State will see several new services from Southwest Airlines, starting as early as June 4, 2026. That’s just in time for summer travels.

Here’s everything we know about the new routes and how to book them.

Southwest Adds More California and Hawaii Flights

Southwest Airlines will add several flights to and from California next year. This announcement includes increased frequencies on flights between Southern California and Seattle, Portland, and Salt Lake City.

The more interesting aspect, however, is that the airline will add nonstop flights to Hawaii from 2 Southern California airports. The first is a route between Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), starting on June 4, 2026.

Then, on August 4, Southwest will increase the flight frequencies discussed above while also launching another new service to Honolulu — this time from Burbank (BUR).

These are interesting routes for Southwest, given that the airline already flies to Honolulu from nearby Los Angeles (LAX) and Long Beach (LGB). Southwest will also face some competition from Ontario, as Alaska Airlines already offers daily flights from the airport.

Southwest has a long history at ONT, recently celebrating 40 years at the airport, so brand visibility will undoubtedly play a role in the route’s success. The airline is also ONT’s largest carrier, accounting for 36% of total passengers last year.

Bottom Line:

Ultimately, these new routes will make the most sense for travelers who want to avoid busy LAX or wish to use Southwest Rapid Rewards, as we’ll discuss more down below.

How To Book

Southwest’s new flights from both Ontario and Burbank to Honolulu are now available — but tickets aren’t cheap.

We’re seeing one-way flights starting around $220. While that isn’t a terrible price, we suggest saving your money and using Rapid Rewards points instead.

You’ll find tickets as low as 17,000 points one-way, which is pretty decent for flights to Hawaii.

Luckily, there are a ton of ways to earn Southwest points

Final Thoughts

Southwest Airlines will begin flights to Honolulu from 2 Southern California airports next year, starting from Ontario on June 4 and then Burbank on August 4. At first glance, the new routes may not make much sense, given that nearby airports already offer flights to Honolulu.

But this is excellent news for travelers based in the greater Los Angeles area, as now have more options for flying to the Aloha State without the traffic and long lines associated with flying out of LAX.
