Thai Airways Unveils New Business Class That’s Coming to Most of Its Long-Haul Fleet

Thai Airways is making major moves. The airline has unveiled its next-generation business class cabins, which are shaping up to be one of the biggest product changes in recent years. The new cabins are set to roll out across the airline’s long-haul fleet in 2027.

Thai Airways New Business Class Cabins Coming in 2027

Earlier this year, Thai Airways announced it was preparing for one of the most comprehensive cabin overhauls in its history, with a completely new business class product across much of its long-haul fleet.

The Bangkok-based Star Alliance carrier has officially revealed plans for a new business class product that will roll out across its Boeing 777s, Boeing 787s, and Airbus A350s, beginning in 2027.

Thai Airways has selected the Thompson Aero VantageNOVA platform as its next-generation business class seat. This is the same business class product that Delta will introduce on its new Airbus A350-1000s, which will also be delivered in 2027.

The new business class product will feature a reverse-herringbone cabin layout that provides every passenger with direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration. The business class seats will also feature sliding privacy doors.

At the front of the new cabin will be a “Business Class Plus” row, offering an upgraded experience for passengers willing to pay a premium over the standard business class offering.

These seats are expected to come with larger screens and additional privacy and space.

Thai Airways’ Fleet Modernization Plan

Thai Airways has operated a diverse long-haul fleet, comprising aircraft with different seat types and cabin layouts. However, that is finally set to change.

Thai Airways is planning to streamline its fleet to finally offer consistency. The airline will first retrofit 14 Boeing 777-300ERs with the new business class product between mid-2027 and the end of 2028.

It will also retrofit 21 Airbus A350-900s with the new product, though this will not take place until 2028 at the earliest.

Finally, Thai Airways has a significant number of Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft on order, with delivery expected sometime in 2028. All these new aircraft will feature the new seats.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest changes in this modernization plan is that Thai Airways will eliminate its first class product. However, Thai currently operates first class on just 3 of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, so it’s not a massive loss.

This is in line with global aviation trends — true first class products are becoming rarer by the day. Travelers seeking a more enhanced experience beyond traditional business class will have to opt for the Business Class Plus suites.
