United Airlines is boosting service from Washington-Dulles (IAD) to Lagos, Nigeria (LOS) from three times weekly to daily during the winter travel season.

Here’s what you need to know.

United’s Increase Service to Nigeria This Winter

United will offer daily flights between Washington, D.C., and Lagos between December 4, 2024, and February 14, 2025, according to a report from Nigerian news site The Will.

United will fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route. The 3-cabin aircraft has 243 seats, including 28 United Polaris business class seats.

“Africa continues to be an integral part of United’s global network, and we are delighted to announce an increase of flights from Lagos to Washington Dulles during the winter season with our state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner aircraft,” said Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, United Country Sales Manager for Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.

Bola-Sadipe said the move would also provide “convenient one-stop connections” to 70+ United hubs, such as Chicago (ORD), Houston (IAH), and Newark (EWR).

United isn’t the only carrier offering nonstop flights to Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. Delta Air Lines flies daily from its Atlanta (ATL) hub to Lagos on the Airbus A330. The airline also flies seasonally from New York (JFK) on the Airbus A330 in the winter.

Tickets for the increased service are now live on United’s website. Cash prices are available, with round-trip economy tickets starting at $1,500 and premium economy tickets for around $2,000.

While those prices are standard, business-class tickets are another thing: a seat in United Polaris can cost more than $6,000.

With such sky-high prices, you’ll want to redeem points and miles to book your ticket. Luckily, there are several ways to book United flights to Lagos (and other destinations across Africa). Here are a few options:

Final Thoughts

This is pretty exciting news for United, which clearly sees Lagos as a major travel destination as it expands service to the city. Thanks to United’s membership in Star Alliance, there are plenty of ways to book award flights to Lagos, with the cheapest tickets costing just 40,000 points and miles one-way!
