When Alaska Airlines and Bank of America rolled out the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Card this month, I knew I had to apply — even though I don’t live anywhere near an Alaska hub.

I’m based in South Florida, where Alaska’s presence is extremely limited. The airline has a couple of nonstop routes, but for the most part, I’m flying out of Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) on American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, or other Oneworld partners.

Still, the perks packed into this new premium credit card make it a winner for me, even at its $395 annual fee.

Let me break down exactly why this card immediately earned a spot in my wallet.

Atmos Rewards Summit Card: Overview

This is Alaska Airlines’ big move into the world of premium travel credit cards. The Atmos Rewards Summit card comes with:

  • A generous welcome bonus offer of 100,000 points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award after you spend $6,000 in the first 90 days of account opening
  • Waived partner award booking fees
  • Elevated earning rates, including 3x on eligible dining and foreign transaction purchases
  • Earn a 100,000-point Global Companion Award (after spending $60,000 or more on purchases in a card anniversary year)
  • 8 Alaska Lounge passes annually (2 per quarter)

In short, this isn’t just an Alaska Airlines card. It’s a global travel card that can be incredibly valuable even for flyers like me who rarely board Alaska flights.

Welcome Bonus That’s Worth It by Itself

The current bonus offer is one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen.

Upgraded Points values Alaska miles (now Atmos Rewards points) at around 1.6 cents each, so a 100,000-point welcome bonus is worth roughly $1,600 in flights. However, I often find more value than this with my rewards.

Here’s the kicker: I frequently redeem Atmos Rewards points to book American Airlines flights, often at far better redemption rates than what American charges for its own award tickets. That makes the welcome bonus alone a no-brainer for me.

Even if I never used another perk, I’d already come out far ahead of the $395 annual fee.

25,000-Point Global Companion Award

One of the most notable benefits of this card is the annual 25,000-point Global Companion Award. Each year you hold the card, you receive this award, a certificate to shave 25,000 points off a companion award booking.

The best part? It’s not limited to Alaska Airlines. It works on Oneworld partner redemptions — including American Airlines.

Living near Miami, a major American Airlines hub, this perk is a game-changer for me. I can use Alaska miles to book an AA award and slash the companion cost by 25,000 points. And if I push through $60,000 in spending through the card in a year, the perk supercharges into a 100,000-point Global Companion Award.

At that level, I could book a round-trip, business-class ticket to Europe for 120,000 miles — and bring my companion along for just 20,000 more. That’s a trip that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars in cash.

Waived Partner Award Booking Fees

Another benefit I love is that the card waives booking fees for partner awards. Normally, you’d pay up to $25 per person in fees and taxes on Alaska partner-award tickets.

Since I redeem Alaska miles heavily for AA flights, this savings adds up quickly. I easily book a dozen of these awards per year, so skipping those $25-per-person charges saves me hundreds of dollars annually — just on this perk alone.

Leveraging My Bank of America Preferred Rewards Relationship

Because this card is issued by Bank of America, I get an extra boost thanks to my existing relationship with them. I keep brokerage accounts at Bank of America, which qualifies me for their Preferred Rewards program. This gives me a 10% points bonus on all purchases with the Atmos Rewards Summit card.

My Bank of America Preferred Rewards status means I’m effectively earning 3.3x points on Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines flights, 3.3x on dining, and 3.3x on foreign purchases, making this card a powerhouse for travel and everyday spending, especially when traveling abroad.

Why 3x on Foreign Purchases Is the Game Changer

Let’s take a closer look at the earning rates.

Yes, 3x on dining is solid, but I still often default to my American Express® Gold Card, as it earns 4x points on restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 per calendar year), or the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card on Citi Nights (Friday and Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.), which delivers 6x points. Those cards are just stronger in dining-related purchases.

Where the Atmos Rewards Summit card really shines for me is with the foreign purchases 3x category. I spend close to 40 days a year traveling internationally, whether it’s a trip to Europe, family visits in South America, or beach time in the Caribbean. Being able to earn 3x points everywhere abroad is the multiplier that excites me the most and makes it one of the best travel credit cards when I’m traveling internationally.

On those trips, this automatically becomes my go-to card. Whether I’m paying for meals, taxis, museum tickets, or tours, I’m racking up points at a fantastic rate, all while building toward that annual 100,000-point Global Companion Award.

That mix of strong earnings and valuable redemption opportunities is exactly why this card works so well for me, even though I rarely fly Alaska.

Hot Tip:

The Atmos Rewards Summit card shines most on international trips and for its companion award certificates. That’s why it earns a spot in my rotation but isn’t necessarily my all-purpose points-earning card.

Final Thoughts

With a welcome bonus worth $1,600+, Global Companion Award certificates, waived partner booking fees, and 3x points on all foreign purchases, the $395 annual fee isn’t even a deterrent, as I know I’ll easily get tons more value. Just in the first year, that alone is a slam dunk.

For travelers like me who don’t live near an Alaska hub but often book Oneworld partners, fly American frequently, or spend a lot abroad, the new Atmos Rewards Summit card is a hidden gem. It’s a great reminder that the best airline credit card isn’t always tied to the airline you fly the most.
