Although I have visited Türkiye several times in the past few years, I have spent nearly all my time in Istanbul, which has quickly become one of my favorite cities worldwide.

However, this time around, I wanted to visit a new city, so I stayed in Bursa, a historic and scenic city less than 2 hours from Istanbul via ferry. Bursa is best known for its role as the capital of the Ottoman Empire in the mid-1300s.

After looking at numerous hotels, I opted to stay 1 night at the Aloft Bursa Hotel, an inexpensive Marriott Bonvoy property on the city’s outskirts.

Here’s a look at some of the pros and cons of the Aloft Bursa Hotel after my August 2025 stay.

3 Pros of the Aloft Bursa Hotel

1. Inexpensive Property (Especially Using Points)

The Aloft Bursa Hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, so you can make bookings using Marriott Bonvoy points.

Marriott Bonvoy uses dynamic pricing for hotel awards, which means that award rates more closely reflect the cash rate of a hotel night. Fortunately, the Aloft Bursa Hotel is a relatively inexpensive property: Award rates for a standard room start at just 7,500 points per night.

Meanwhile, cash rates are typically around $95, meaning you can get upward of 1.25 cents per point in value. This is a fantastic value considering we value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each. Of course, how much value you get depends on cash and points rates.

If you pay for your room with points, be sure to use a card that has elevated earnings at Marriott hotels:

2. Solid Shared Amenities

The Aloft Bursa Hotel is next to the Sheraton Bursa Hotel, a more luxurious Marriott property widely considered among the better hotels in the city. As the hotels have the same owner, guests staying at the Aloft Bursa Hotel can use the other property’s facilities.

This is a nice touch, as the Aloft Bursa Hotel does not have many on-site amenities, but the Sheraton Bursa Hotel does, including a large outdoor swimming pool.

Aloft guests can access the Sheraton Bursa Hotel’s swimming pool.

Guests at the Aloft Bursa Hotel can also use the Sheraton Bursa Hotel’s fully equipped fitness center, which features a variety of cardio and strength training equipment.

Hot Tip:

The Aloft Bursa Hotel has a spacious lounging area with a pool table behind the lobby. While the hotel’s website indicates that there is an indoor pool and fitness center, a staff member told me that guests were to use the Sheraton’s facilities.

3. Several Places To Eat

The Aloft Bursa Hotel features several on-site dining venues, including Prusa Restaurant, the hotel’s main restaurant, which focuses on international food, and Tiene Vida Restaurant, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. The property also has a W XYZ Bar, a staple of Aloft Hotels.

Although I did not have dinner at the hotel, I did have breakfast at Prusa Restaurant. The breakfast featured a massive buffet with an excellent selection of fresh food, including bakery items and fruits.

The breakfast bakery selection was fantastic.

4 Cons of the Aloft Bursa Hotel

1. Location Is Not Ideal for Short Stays

The Aloft Bursa Hotel is in the Nilüfer district of Bursa, about a 15-minute drive from the city center. Alternatively, you can use Bursa’s public transportation to get to the city center, which takes 30 to 50 minutes, depending on whether you take the bus or subway.

The property is also a 50-minute drive from Bursa Yenişehir Airport (YEI), the city’s international airport.

Bottom Line:

Although the Nilüfer district was quite modern and relaxing, with tall buildings, residential complexes, high-end restaurants, and shopping malls, I would not stay there again if I were visiting Bursa to see the city’s historical sites, especially if I were only visiting for a few days.

2. Guest Rooms Are Outdated

Although the room I was assigned had a nice layout and was clean, it (as the hotel in general) desperately needed renovation. Most of the furniture looked pretty worn and showed visible wear with scratches or stains.

The room had a sofa and a workstation, which featured noticeable stains and dirt marks, so I did not bother using either. The carpet was no better, to the point that I did not want to walk around without shoes on.

3. Subpar Service

I found the overall hotel staff service at the property relatively poor. The staff was generally reactive and slow to answer requests or concerns.

Upon check-in, I was greeted by 2 young men at the front desk, who gave the impression that they were new to the hospitality industry. Nearly every staff member I interacted with had some language difficulty, and occasionally, communication was challenging. However, the more pressing concern was the noticeable lack of professional hospitality training, which impacted the overall guest experience.

4. No Re:Fuel by Aloft

Re:Fuel by Aloft pantries are one of the brand’s selling points, thanks to their flexibility and convenience. Unfortunately, this property’s pantry was empty, and no items (not even bottled water) were available for purchase.

This was a major issue for me, as I slept through dinner and could not find a place nearby to eat (and none of the 3 local delivery apps worked for me).

Final Thoughts

The Aloft Bursa Hotel is a Marriott property on the outskirts of Bursa, Türkiye. The property provides good value when you redeem Marriott Bonvoy points and has several nice features, including some nice amenities and on-site dining options.

However, the property also has some significant drawbacks. It needs major renovation, and the staff needs some hospitality training. If given the chance, I would not stay at the property again.
