Although highlighting aspirational and once-in-a-lifetime luxury hotels can be fun, many travelers prefer more down-to-earth hotels where they can trade opulence for an extended stay. This is where Element by Westin stands out as an upper-midrange brand in the “longer stays” category of the Marriott Bonvoy hotel portfolio.

Although not known for just for luxury, Element by Westin provides a balanced hotel experience when you’re on the road. Best of all, these hotels can provide an excellent way to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for a free hotel stay.

In this guide, we will examine the Element by Westin brand, how to earn Marriott Bonvoy points, and some of the best Element by Westin properties you can stay at using points around the world.

Everything You Need To Know About the Element by Westin Brand

The first Element hotel opened in Lexington, Massachusetts, in July 2008. The brand was part of Marriott’s 2016 acquisition of Starwood Hotels.. As of 2024, there are more than 100 Element by Westin properties in 11 countries. Still, over four-fifths of all Element by Westin hotels are in North America.

According to Marriott, Element by Westin is “designed for today’s healthy, active traveler who wants to maintain a balanced lifestyle while on the road.” Element has redefined the longer-stay experience with a design philosophy based on the outdoors and a nature-inspired aesthetic.

Element by Westin was also designed to be an environmentally-friendly brand with sustainability in mind. Element hotels are built eco-friendly with floors made of recycled materials, energy-efficient lighting, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures.

The hotels also feature modern and trendy designs with plenty of space for larger groups. All Element hotels feature sizable studios and 1-bedroom suites, which boast fully equipped in-room kitchens, spa-inspired bathrooms, and signature Heavenly Beds. Guest rooms feature organic patterns and muted colors to create a peaceful place to unwind.

Element hotels also offer amenities such as complimentary breakfast, all-natural saline swimming pools, fully-equipped 24/7 fitness centers, and electric vehicle chargers.

Studio Commons

Most Element hotels have a one-of-a-kind private communal space called Studio Commons. This concept is the first of its kind in the industry and blends a traditional hotel room with a home rental.

Studio Commons provides a private communal space for groups looking to spend time together in a more private setting while still enjoying all the comforts of a hotel room. It includes a kitchen for cooking, an entertainment area for convening and relaxing, and 4 private rooms.

Bikes to Borrow

Element hotels in the U.S. also have a Bikes to Borrow program, where guests can borrow hotel-supplied bicycles and safety helmets free of charge. The concept was created to promote wellness and fitness and make a healthy, balanced lifestyle more achievable for travelers.

Love That Dog

The brand also welcomes dogs weighing up to 40 pounds. Its Love That Dog program provides a dog bed, food, water bowl, and cleaning supplies to guests with dogs.
