If you’re looking for a hotel in Panama that combines historic architecture with modern design and amenities, look no further than Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo in Panama City.

Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo is in the Casco Antiguo (historic) section of Panama City, just over 15 miles from Tocumen International Airport (PTY) and less than an hour to the Miraflores Locks on the Panama Canal, the country’s most famous attraction. It’s a great option if you’d like to experience a luxurious hotel that is convenient for many activities.

This independently owned hotel, which opened in 2022, is a unique property with personality. You may be surprised that it’s part of Hyatt and can be booked with World of Hyatt points.

I spent 3 nights at Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo in June 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed the property. However, there are some things you should know before booking — let’s jump into the details.

1. It Can Be Booked With World of Hyatt Points

One of the best things about Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo is that it’s part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection and can be booked with World of Hyatt points. It’s a Category 5 hotel that costs 17,000 (off-peak), 20,000 (standard), or 23,000 (peak) points per night.

The small World of Hyatt sign at the front desk is your only hint that this unique hotel is part of a big-name brand.

If you’re paying cash, rooms start around $300 per night before taxes. If you go this route, the best credit card options would be The World of Hyatt Credit Card or the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, which earn 4 points per dollar on Hyatt purchases.

World of Hyatt

Hyatt’s presence in Panama is small but has grown recently, with 2 new hotels that opened earlier in 2025. However, there are still just 6 Hyatt hotels in the country:

It’s also bookable through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR). When you book an FHR hotel through AmexTravel.com, you’re eligible for guaranteed 4 pm late checkout, a $100 property credit, a room upgrade, and complimentary breakfast for 2.

This hotel would also be an excellent option for the up to $200 prepaid hotel credit on The Platinum Card® from American Express.

2. It’s a Copa Airlines Stopover Program Partner Hotel

Copa Airlines is based in Panama City and offers a stopover program to allow passengers to experience the city on an extended layover (24 hours up to 7 days) for no additional airfare.

You can experience Panama City by using Copa Airlines’ stopover program.

Even better, Copa partners with select hotels, restaurants, and tour operators to offer discounts and special perks to stopover passengers.

3. It Has a Sister Hotel 2 Hours Away

To get the full Panama experience, you might want to spend a few days in the countryside in addition to your time in Panama City. Luckily, Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo has a sister hotel called Hotel La Compañía del Valle (also part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection), located just over 2 hours away.

You can easily spend a couple of nights at each location; packages with transportation between the 2 hotels included are available.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to stay at Hotel La Compañía del Valle on this trip. However, I learned it was getting ready to debut a brand new 18,000-square-foot spa that looks amazing, so I think I need to find an excuse to return.

4. It Oozes History, but With a Modern Touch

I was genuinely surprised when I walked in the front door of Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo. It was an elegant space that seamlessly combined modern aesthetics with historical beauty.

I learned that the hotel comprises 3 wings, each with its own style.

The French Colonial wing dates back to 1739. The Spanish Colonial wing is the oldest section, dating back to 1688. The most modern architecture can be found in the American Beaux Arts wing, which dates back to 1904.

My room in the French wing was a gorgeous mix of modern and historic decor (hello, stone wall). My king bed was superbly comfortable, and I slept like a baby.

I loved that my Juliet balcony overlooked the lush courtyard.

The lush vegetation and historic ruins in the courtyard exuded the spirit of Panama City.

The bathroom had double sinks, a spacious shower, and a beautiful stone accent wall.

My bathroom was modern, but this stone wall made it unique.

I love open-concept closets in hotels, and this one was convenient. It had a mirror and space to lay out my suitcase.

The open-concept closet made the room very functional.

There was even a small desk that could be used to get some work done.

I’m sure this desk would be a great space to work from, but I opted to work from the comfy bed instead!
Hot Tip:

Viator offers a guided walking tour of the Casco Viejo area of Panama City, which starts just 2 minutes from the hotel.
