The World of Hyatt program is a favorite among many travelers thanks to its excellent redemption options and fantastic elite member benefits. One of the other great things about the World of Hyatt program is that you can book suites online using points. In addition to that, you can now also book Hyatt suite upgrades online. This is a great option to secure a suite at the time of booking without paying full price.

In this post, we’ll show you exactly how to book a Hyatt suite upgrade online using World of Hyatt points.

How To Book Hyatt Suite Upgrades Online

The World of Hyatt program is easy to use, and thankfully, booking a suite upgrade online is a simple process. Another great thing is that the ability to book a suite or suite upgrade with points is available to all World of Hyatt members, not just top-level Globalist members.

The process of booking a suite upgrade online is simple. Start at hyatt.com with your booking, then choose your hotel as you normally would, and click on View Points to see all of the points options available. Then you can scroll to the right to see the suite upgrade options, called Lp Suite Pts Upgr (for a standard suite) and Upgrade Premium Suite (for a premium suite).

In addition to the ability to book a suite upgrade online, Hyatt allows you to book a standard or premium suite entirely with World of Hyatt points, or you can do a points + cash option for both standard and premium suites, as well. Keep in mind, though, that not all of these options are available for every Hyatt property.

Suite upgrades with points are only available online at the time of booking — you can’t upgrade a previously booked room online. If you want to upgrade your room after booking, you can contact Hyatt customer service at 800-544-9288.

How Much Do Suite Upgrades Cost?

Suite upgrade options are based on the standard room rate plus a certain number of points.

  • Standard suites will cost the standard rate plus 6,000 points
  • Premium suites will cost the standard rate plus 9,000 points

You may notice the standard rate isn’t necessarily the lowest rate available. When booking a suite upgrade online, you can’t take advantage of other rates like member rates, AAA rates, specialty rates, or Hyatt Privé rates.

Bottom Line: Hyatt has made it easy to upgrade to a suite online using points. Upgrading to a regular suite will cost the standard rate plus 6,000 points while upgrading to a premium suite will cost the standard rate plus 9,000 points.

Is This a Good Deal?

Let’s take a look at the numbers to see if it’s a good deal to book a Hyatt suite upgrade online. As mentioned previously, you’ll pay the standard room rate plus either 6,000 or 9,000 points to book. The standard rate is going to be higher than some other rates you may find, including the member rate.

In our example above, the standard rate is $299, however, the member rate is $285 ($14 lower). So instead of looking at the cost of the suite upgrade as just 6,000 points, it’s more accurate to look at the price as $14 plus 6,000 points.

Since a standard suite costs $549, you’re basically paying $14 + 6,000 points instead of the extra $250 (price difference between the standard rate and a suite).

That gives you a value of ~3.9 cents per point for the upgrade cost, which is great since World of Hyatt points are valued at about 1.5 cents each.

Even if you don’t take into account member rates vs. standard rates, booking a Hyatt suite upgrade online using points can be a great deal! It’s also a great option if you only have a small number of World of Hyatt points.

Hot Tip: Upgrading to a suite online at the time of booking can be a great way to use your World of Hyatt points, especially if you only have a small number of points available.

Online Suite Upgrade vs. Hyatt Privé

A downside to booking a Hyatt suite upgrade online is that you can’t take advantage of Hyatt Privé benefits. If you’re not familiar with Hyatt Privé, it’s a program that allows you to get special benefits at over 200 Hyatt properties when you book through select travel agents.

Hyatt Privé benefits include:

  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • A 1 category room upgrade (room to room or suite to suite)
  • A property credit of $50 to $100
  • Early check-in
  • Welcome gift

If you’re able to book a Hyatt Privé rate, you’ll need to decide if those benefits are more or less important than being able to upgrade to a suite at the time of booking.

Bottom Line: You won’t be able to book a Hyatt Privé rate if you want to upgrade to a suite online.

Globalist Members

The ability to upgrade to a suite online may be less valuable to Globalist members since they have plenty of other opportunities to upgrade to suites through regular room upgrades, as well as suite upgrade awards.
