Hong Kong is one of the most amazing places on Earth. With its magnificent skyline, iconic street food, neon-lit markets, and world-class shopping, Hong Kong has something to offer everyone who visits.

Although I have been to Hong Kong numerous times, my April 2025 trip would be my wife’s first time, and I wanted to stay at a luxury hotel to make our last night there special. Fortunately, Hong Kong has many luxury hotels.

I booked a 1-night stay at the Mira Hong Kong, A Member of Design Hotels, with a reasonable cash rate.

Here’s an in-depth look at my experience at the property and why you should consider staying there when traveling to Hong Kong.

Booking the Mira Hong Kong

Although I visited Hong Kong just last year, we had the opportunity to visit again and took it.

For our final night in Hong Kong, my wife and I wanted a nice hotel to relax and escape the city’s hustle and bustle. We chose the Mira Hong Kong, A Member of Design Hotels, a luxurious property in one of my favorite areas in Hong Kong, and the first Design Hotels property I’ve stayed at.

Cash prices were quite reasonable, considering how expensive accommodations can be in Hong Kong. After taxes and fees, the price was HK$1,243 ($158) for a City Room, the cheapest room available at booking.

The Mira Hong Kong cash rate with tax for room
April cash rates were reasonable for a luxury property in Hong Kong. Image Credit: Marriott

For comparison, I opened a new tab to see what the points redemption cost would be for this property. A standard room was 30,000 points for the night. We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents per point, making 30,000 points worth $210.

The Mira Hong Kong points price

Since the cash rate was significantly lower, I opted to pay with cash, as using points would have netted a very poor award redemption. As with nearly all of my Marriott stays, I paid for the room using my Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, as it has elevated earnings for Marriott purchases.

The Mira Hong Kong Location

The Mira Hong Kong is on Nathan Road across from Kowloon Park in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. TST is a major tourist hub with many bars, restaurants, shopping malls, and endless guesthouses and local hotels.

The property is less than a 15-minute walk from many of Kowloon’s biggest tourist attractions, including Kowloon Park, the Kowloon Mosque, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Cultural Center, the K11 Musea Shopping Mall, Chungking Mansions, Avenue of Stars, the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier, the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, and Victoria Harbour.

Hong Kong is incredibly well-connected with world-class public transportation. The property is less than a 5-minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui Station, a stop on the popular Tsuen Wan Line, and less than a 10-minute walk from East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, a stop on the Tuen Mun Line.

Getting There

With Hong Kong’s incredible public transportation, numerous ways exist to reach the Mira Hong Kong.

From Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), you can take the Airport Express train to Hong Kong Station. From there, you can walk 6 minutes to Central Station and take the Tsuen Wan Line to Tsim Sha Tsui Station. The entire journey takes about 55 minutes and costs HK$130 ($17).

Alternatively, you could take Bus A21 from the Airport Ground Transportation station to the Kimberly Road and Nathan Road bus stop. The Mira Hong Kong is less than a 2-minute walk from the bus stop. A one-way bus ticket costs HK$35 ($5), and the journey takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Hot Tip:

At the airport, purchase an Octopus card, a rechargeable contactless smart card used for electronic payments in Hong Kong. You can use it to pay for nearly all modes of transport, including the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway), buses, and ferries. You can also use an Octopus card to pay at vending machines, kiosks, convenience stores, and supermarkets.

Checking In

We wanted to make the most of our time in Hong Kong, as we had less than 36 hours left. We headed to the hotel around 10 a.m., hoping our room would be ready. Even if it wasn’t, we planned to drop our bags before exploring more of Hong Kong.

We entered the main entrance on the right side of Kimberly Road. The hotel also has a secondary entrance connected to the Mira Place 2 shopping mall.

The entrance led to a hallway featuring wavy white walls and reflective space-black ceilings. It felt like I was entering a nightclub.

The Mira Hong Kong entryway

We proceeded to the hotel check-in counter directly down the hallway. We were greeted by a friendly front desk representative who requested identification and welcomed us to the hotel.

The Mira Hong Kong check in desk

After confirming our 1-night stay at the hotel, the representative thanked me for my Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status and notified us that the hotel had upgraded us to a suite on the 10th floor. This was a fantastic surprise. Best of all, our room was ready at 10:30 a.m.

She also inquired about our flight time, mentioning that the hotel was extremely busy the following day and that a late checkout would be difficult. After some conversation, she gave us an extra hour with a checkout time of 1 p.m., which worked out well.

She then mentioned that, as Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members, we could have complimentary breakfast at Yamm. She also provided 2 vouchers for complimentary welcome drinks, which could be redeemed at Coco or Vibes.

Bottom Line:

The check-in process was extremely quick and efficient, which I always appreciate. I also commend the property for proactively upgrading us to a suite.

Elite Benefits

I have Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status courtesy of my Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, and this bestows several benefits at the property, including:

  • Enhanced room upgrade (based on availability)
  • Complimentary daily buffet breakfast at Yamm
  • Welcome drink at Vibes or Coco
  • Welcome gift of 1,000 points per stay
  • 4 p.m. late checkout
  • 50% bonus points

Lobby

After getting our key cards, we explored the hotel’s open-concept minimalist lobby. The concierge desk was opposite the check-in counters, near the entrance.

Against the back wall, there were 2 rather large seating areas, with several seating options. Each section had seating space for at least 15 people.

Although the lobby was relatively spacious, these were the only seating areas, making it extremely busy throughout our stay.

Lastly, the hotel’s elevators were to the right of the concierge desk. Although there were 5 guest floor elevators, there was often a wait.

After exiting the elevator on the 10th floor, we followed the signs to room 1052 through a dimly lit hallway. The hallways featured low ceilings and several light fixtures throughout.

There were lights and mirrors along the length of the hallways.

As I entered the suite, I saw a large open concept that led into the living area. I could immediately tell I would like the room.

Immediately to the left was a large marble multipurpose unit with the room’s workstation.

The left 2 drawers were empty with plenty of storage space. In the right section, the room’s minibar had a decent selection of beverages (for purchase) and a kettle next to it.

The desk surface contained more minibar items for sale. Snack options included almonds, chips, and beef cubes. A Nespresso coffee machine with coffee cups and 2 complimentary glass bottles of water was also offered.

To the right was the workstation, which contained a comfortable but not ergonomic chair.

Several hotel-branded items were on the desk’s surface, including a mounted USB charging dock and a pocket “Wi-Fi buddy” device for use outside of the hotel. There was also a QR code menu for 24/7 in-room dining.

A notice stated that construction was ongoing near the hotel and that they apologized for any noise disturbances during the day as demolition work commenced.

The workstation drawer contained a Design Hotels magazine, an Ethernet cable, and a stationery kit. The stationery kit included a ruler, an eraser, a stapler, a pencil sharpener, and some tape.

There were several useful travel electronics.

A small pouch contained a hotel-branded universal travel adapter, which was helpful as the room had several Type G outlets.

Across from the multipurpose unit was the room’s massive closet, which was divided into 2 sections. The doors featured floor-to-ceiling mirrors.

The left section of the closet contained an ironing board and iron, some hangers, 2 pairs of slippers, and a shoeshine mitt.

The right section contained more hangers and the room’s primary storage area. A spacious built-in luggage rack could store our carry-on bags and 2 backpacks.

Beneath the luggage rack were some drawers, one of which contained the room’s safe. Another drawer contained a laundry bag, the hotel’s laundry pricing, a shoehorn, and a shoe brush.

The living section of the room featured a large sectional couch with enough space for 4 to 5 people to sit comfortably.

I loved the minimalist design of the living room.

There was a large coffee table in front of the sofa, which was the lowest I had ever seen.

The coffee table was low to the ground.

There was also a swiveling, 360-degree armchair, which was extremely comfortable. The light green color was a nice touch.

The suite’s king-sized bed was directly across from the sectional against the right wall and was placed between 2 identical side tables.

The Mira Hong Kong suite bed
The bed was extremely comfortable and provided great sleep.

The bed featured a massive, plush headboard and 4 pillows of varying firmness. The left side table contained the room’s telephone, an alarm clock, and a lamp. There were also light controls for the mood lighting and a Type G outlet. The right side table contained a single desk lamp. Surprisingly, there were 2 temperature control units right next to each other.

The king-sized bed boasted a nice headboard.

The room’s wall-mounted television was placed on the dividing wall between the bathroom and the entrance to the room. Although the TV was mounted to the wall, it had a swiveling arm mount that rotated it quite a bit, so you could see it perfectly from the bed.

The swiveling arm was useful.

Lastly, the suite’s windows were to the right of the bed. Unfortunately, there was not much of a view (unless you count excavators and loaders as a view).

Bathroom

The suite’s large bathroom was located near the bed, separated by a glass wall. The narrow entrance led to a modern bathroom with the vanity to the right and the rest of the bathroom to the left.

On the right side, there was a long bathroom vanity with 2 separate sinks.

Bathroom vanities with double sinks are always a nice touch, as they allow my wife and me to get ready at the same time in the morning without getting in each other’s way.

The hotel provided numerous toiletries, including cotton buds, a vanity set, a bath mitt, a sewing kit, a shower cap, a comb, and 2 dental sets. There were also 2 additional complimentary glass water bottles and a bottle opener.

Across the hall from the vanity was the toilet. Fortunately, there was a sliding door for privacy.

Bottom Line:

Overall, I was very impressed with the suite. I loved the layout and furniture choices, especially the modern sectional and the marble multipurpose unit near the entrance. The suite was also incredibly spacious, particularly for Hong Kong, which is notorious for having relatively small hotel rooms.

Food and Beverage

As expected of a luxury hotel like the Mira Hong Kong, there were several on-site food and beverage venues, ranging from a small cafe to a few world-class restaurants. Hotel guests receive a 20% discount on all hotel restaurants and bars, except Sushi Takeshi, which is independently operated.

Yamm

The hotel’s primary international restaurant, Yamm, is on the lobby level behind the entrance to Coco, near the check-in desk. Yamm offers an international buffet and an à la carte menu, focusing on Asian and Western dishes.

Yamm is open daily between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Here are the hours for the restaurant’s buffet:

  • Breakfast buffet (daily): 7 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Lunch buffet (Monday through Friday): 12 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Brunch buffet (Weekends and public holidays): 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Dinner buffet (daily): 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Lunch Buffet at Yamm

Although we weren’t originally planning on eating at the hotel, we changed our minds when we went to look at what the lunch buffet had to offer.

The lunch buffet costs HK$468 ($60) for adults and HK$268 ($34) for children ages 3 to 11. Hotel guests receive a 20% discount on the bill; however, all prices are subject to a 10% service charge on the original price.

The restaurant was extremely busy, as it is open to non-hotel guests. Fortunately, it is incredibly spacious, with seating for up to 150 people, by my estimation. It felt much more crowded with people constantly getting up to get more food and returning to their tables.

The restaurant staff did an excellent job replenishing food as it was being taken away and clearing empty and finished plates off the tables.

The buffet featured a lot of seafood, including different types of mussels, sea whelk, shrimp, and clams. There were also cooked mussels with white wine sauce and mixed vegetable curry.

The Mira Hong Kong Yamm lunch buffet seafood
Plenty of seafood options.

More curry options included Thai red curry duck and chicken curry.

The Mira Hong Kong Yamm lunch buffet curry
Unfortunately, the curries lacked a bit of flavor.

More meat options included steamed fish head and bone with chili, braised beef chunks with vegetables and red wine sauce, and grilled beef and lamb skewers. There was also a dedicated fish and chips section.

Other mains included stir-fried prawn, deep-fried crispy pork belly, pan-fried pork meat dumplings, pan-fried pork chops, and stir-fried minced pork.

Mira Hong Kong lunch YAmm
So many food options.

However, the defining feature (and the main reason why we chose to eat lunch here) of the lunch buffet was the sushi. Sushi options included Hokkigai sushi, squid sushi, Ajitsuke Inari sushi, salmon sushi, shrimp sushi, and California rolls.

The Mira Hong Kong Yamm lunch buffet sushi
I ate at least 25 pieces of sushi by myself.

Additionally, there was a dedicated sashimi station where the chefs would cut up however many pieces you wanted. Options included salmon, tuna, snapper, and octopus. With how expensive sashimi is, we made sure to get our money’s worth here.

There was also a dedicated dessert station with an endless selection of desserts, including Madeleines, mini puffs, chocolate muffins, fruitcakes, and guava pudding. Additionally, there was a massive chocolate fountain.

The Mira Hong Kong Yamm lunch buffet desserts
There was an endless amount of dessert choices.

Other dessert options included apple-raspberry pie, jackfruit-sago verrines, baked green tea cheesecake, vanilla cream exotic cakes, and tiramisu. Additionally, there were bowls with gummy bears, gummy worms, and marshmallows.

Lastly, a fruit station featured a great selection, including apples, pears, oranges, kiwi, cantaloupe, watermelon, and pineapple.

After looking at the buffet’s offerings, we filled our plates with food. Of course, the entire first go-around featured mostly fresh sushi and sashimi. Round 2 featured more sushi, sashimi, curry, and fish and chips. The fish and chips were fantastic, with a crispy exterior and a perfectly cooked interior.

Bottom Line:

The lunch buffet at Yamm was fantastic. Although I prefer not to eat at hotels in favor of street food in almost any location, I am glad we took the leap to try the lunch buffet. My wife and I more than justified what we paid by eating our bodyweight in sushi and sashimi.

Breakfast at Yamm

Guests who book rates with breakfast included and members with Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status (and higher) get complimentary breakfast at Yamm.

Like the lunch buffet, the breakfast buffet at Yamm featured a massive selection of food options. The first section boasted hash browns, deep-fried donut sticks, deep-fried mini shrimp sandwiches, shrimp fingers, pan-fried pork dumplings, bacon, and tortilla omelets.

The Mira Hong Kong breakfast hot station
The hash browns were extra crispy, just how I like them.

The next section offered roasted chicken salad, roasted pumpkin, Italian salami sausage, smoked salmon, and peppercorn sausage.

The Mira Hong Kong breakfast smoked salmon
I love smoked salmon for breakfast.

There was also a section with small plates of Japanese tsukemono (pickled vegetables), sesame snail meat, seaweed salad, and sesame scallops.

Hot food items included boiled smoked ham, cream of sweet potato and corn, and stir-fried noodles with soy sauce. Baked beans, ratatouille casserole, and grilled tomatoes were also available.

Chefs prepared eggs to order at a dedicated omelet station.

The buffet had a fruit section with cantaloupe, pineapple, and watermelon; a display of 6 cereals, including cornflakes and Rice Krispies; and a massive bakery section with a variety of breads and muffins.

Bakery section with various desserts.

Lastly, the beverage section featured infused water, fruit juices, and self-service coffee machines.

Bottom Line:

The breakfast buffet at Yamm offered a wide variety of food. However, the food was average at best, with nothing sticking out.

Cuisine Cuisine

The Michelin-recommended Cuisine Cuisine is located on the third floor and serves Chinese fare, including dim sum. It is open weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 6 to 10:30 p.m. for dinner. On weekends and public holidays, it’s open between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. for lunch and 6 to 10:30 p.m. for dinner. It offers both set and à la carte menus.

WHISK

The hotel also boasts WHISK, which specializes in modern and contemporary European food, with an emphasis on meat and seafood. Its menus are inspired by seasons and offer a curated wine selection.

WHISK is on the hotel’s fifth floor and is open daily for lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. (until 3 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays) and for dinner from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Vibes

An open-air lounge bar, Vibes, is on the fifth-floor courtyard terrace.

Vibes is open Sunday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There is also a live DJ from 8 p.m. to midnight every Thursday through Saturday.

At check-in, my wife and I received 2 vouchers for drinks, which we used at Vibes. My wife opted for a mango passion mocktail, and I ordered a red sangria cocktail.

CoCo

CoCo is a cafe and patisserie in the hotel lobby, to the right of the check-in desks. It’s open daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Guests could select items from the grab-and-go section or order from CoCo’s menu. There was an excellent selection of desserts, including cakes, brownies, muffins, and fruit.

The Mira Hong Kong CoCo

In-Room Dining

The Mira Hong Kong also features a diverse 24/7 in-room dining option. The menu includes an all-day breakfast and Asian and Western cuisine.

You can find the full menu here. Notably, there are many vegetarian and Halal dining options available.

Service

Although I had minimal interactions with the hotel staff, each encounter was positive, which we expected at a luxury hotel in Hong Kong. The staff were always around to answer questions or address concerns with a smile. They seemed to enjoy their jobs, which is always nice to see.

At check-in, I briefly mentioned that it was our last night in Hong Kong, and we were celebrating our anniversary. The guest relations team sent a complimentary dessert and a thoughtfully written anniversary card, a nice surprise and appreciated personal touch.

The Mira Hong Kong is a fantastic, reasonably priced property in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It is within walking distance of so much of what Hong Kong has to offer, but also provides a relaxing sanctuary in bustling Tsim Sha Tsui.

We were proactively upgraded to a fantastic suite that featured some nice design elements, including mood lighting and contemporary furniture.

The lunch buffet at Yamm was tasty and reasonably priced. However, the breakfast buffet was average at best. The service at the hotel was also great, with the staff assisting me whenever I needed something.

I’ve stayed at many of Hong Kong’s finest hotels, and the Mira Hong Kong ranks among the best. I would recommend it to anyone visiting this incredible destination. Best of all, it’s reasonably priced, whether by cash or an award redemption. In a city with plenty of over-the-top hotels, the Mira Hong Kong may offer the best bang for your buck.
