Turkish Airlines works on a weight system for certain international destinations and a piece system for others, so check out the list of destinations below before traveling so you know what you’re eligible for.

Journeys to and from the U.S. work on the piece system, and the checked allowance is 2 bags across economy and business classes (with a generous 70 pounds (32 kg) for the latter).

If you join Turkish Airline’s frequent flyer program Miles&Smiles, you’ll be permitted to take an additional piece of checked luggage once you hit their Elite and Elite Plus statuses.

Frequently asked questions

How many bags does Turkish Airlines allow?

Turkish Airlines works on a piece allowance for some international routes (list of destinations in article above) with Economy passengers allowed 2 pieces (23kg each) and Business Class allowed 2 pieces (32kg each). All other destinations work on a weight allowance where you are not restricted on number of bags, just maximum weight.

How much weight can you take on Turkish Airlines?

With destinations that use a weight concept, passengers can distribute their weight allowance across multiple bags. Economy passengers can bring up to 20kg and Business Class 30kg. Other destinations use the piece concept with Economy allowed 2 bags (23kg each) and Business 2 bags (32kg each). Each bag must also adhere to a max linear size of 158cm.

How many bags can you carry on Turkish Airlines?

Turkish Airlines allows passengers to bring a personal item into the cabin that can fit under the seat in front of you. Economy passengers can also bring 1 carry-on bag and Business can bring 2 carry-on bags measuring up to 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm with a max weight of 8kg.

How much does Turkish Airlines charge for overweight baggage?

Excess checked baggage charges with Turkish Airlines depend on your flight route with destinations on the piece concept being charged $160 – $450 for an extra bag if you exceed your allowance. Destinations on the weight concept are charged $4.50 – $36 per kg if your baggage is overweight.

Does Turkish Airlines allow 2 bags?

Yes, 2 checked bags are permitted with Turkish Airlines if you’re flying to a destination that uses their piece concept (listed in article). If flying to a destination that uses a weight concept then there is no limit to how many bags you can bring – you are only restricted by a combined weight allowance.

          Hi Nadia,

I’m unsure of the question here? Are you asking how much excess luggage is charged at when flying with Turkish Airlines? Or are you connecting to another airline at Istanbul and you’re enquiring the connecting airline?

            Hi Yassine,

The allowance would be (per person):

            Adults and 3 year old
            Carry-on: 1 x personal item and 1 standard carry-on (55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. Maximum weight for each item is 8 kg)
            Checked luggage: 1 x 20 kg

            Infant
Carry-on: 1 standard carry-on (55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. Maximum weight for each item is 8 kg) + baby food sufficient for the flight

          • Hi,

I’m going to be flying with Turkish Airlines from Dublin to São Paulo. I have the two 23kg bags allowed, but I also have my acoustic guitar with a hard case around 7.5kg. How much will it cost?
            Thanks.

          • Hi Mauricio,

Your guitar will likely qualify as an oversized item and be charged an oversized fee. Turkish Airlines does not disclose the charge on its website, so you would need to give the airline a call to determine this.

          Hello!
I will travel from New Delhi India to Toronto Canada and my check in baggages are of 162 linear dimensions each. Will I pay the oversize fee? If so, then how much shall I pay in Cad? Also my bags are of size 22 kg each.

            Hi Harkaran,

Turkish Airlines allows luggage within the free allowance to measure up to 158cm (max linear). As your piece exceeds this it is likely you would incur an oversized fee. As Turkish Airlines does not disclose the charge on its website you would need to give the airline a call to query this.

            Hi Kwabena,

I imagine your TV exceeds carry-on luggage size allowances so all of the luggage you reference would need to be checked. Ghana is a piece concept destination with an allowance of 2 x 23 kg bags, so be sure to check your ticket as you mention a 40 kg allowance. If you have been allocated 2 x 23 kg bags, then you would need to purchase a third piece which would cost $220 and could measure up to 158cm.

I assume part of the journey is being operated by another carrier. If this is the case, then it’s best you check the baggage allowance stated on your ticket or get in touch with Turkish Airlines to see if the other airline’s baggage allowance would be applicable as they would be the most significant carrier for the segment of the journey from Istanbul.

      • Hi Kiril,

The United States routes have a “piece” concept, so the weight isn’t that important. You can take up to 23 kg per piece without a surcharge or 23-32 kg per piece at an additional fee of $80 on top of excess baggage fees. Perhaps the best way to do this is to transport it via freight on DHL or another vendor.

        Hi Zari,

Those destinations work on a weight allowance, so excess baggage charges are calculated by the kilogram rather than by piece. Both origin and destination are region 4 so the cost per kilogram would be $25.

That being said, as you can see in the “Can I prepay for Baggage?” section above, Turkish Airlines does not allow passengers the ability to pre-pay for excess baggage. Unfortunately, this means passengers must pay baggage fees during the check-in process at the airport.

  3. I have a question please answer:
If I carry two checked bags that weigh over thirty-two kilograms, should I pay for a few extra kilograms or not? Thanks

    Reply

    • Hi Nahida – we need a few more details here to help you out, like what fare type you purchased, if you’re flying domestically or internationally, where exactly you’re flying (to/from what regions), is your weight over the 32KG across both bags or is it two bags combined that weigh over 32kg, how much are you expecting to be over, etc?

Aside from all that, whether or not you should pay extra is fairly subjective (i.e. up to you) but whether or not the airline will make you pay extra (if it’s just a kg or two) is completely up to the ticketing agent and how strict they’re feeling. Since they charge per-kilo extra I’d say they’re going to make you pay for it and will likely be pretty strict.

    • Hi Barbara – does it say word for word “baggage allowance max 30k”? It’s likely that this is included BUT it’s tricky because it may actually mean that no matter if it’s complimentary or not it cannot be over 30kg.

Baggage allowance depends on which fare type you purchased (economy, biz, first) and the route you’re flying. Hi Tracy,

If you’re flying from the United States then you will have 2 x 23 kg bags in your free checked allowance, if flying Economy. 2 x 32 kg bags if flying Business Class.

          • Catherine Luther August 13, 2019

            Hi Queen,

You have 2 options here – if you pack your extra weight in the same bag then you will be charged $80 for excess weight up to 32 kg. Or you can purchase an additional 23 kg bag for $200.

          • I have a question related to baggage. If I purchase an economy seat, but my baggage is 30 kg (which is 10 kg more than allowed). Will I be still allowed to take it after paying the extra amount, or they will require me to buy a business seat? My second question is about extra baggage. For economy class, is extra baggage 20 kg or 23 kg? Btw, I plan to fly from Baku to Hamburg, and that’s a transit flight.

          • Hi Nargiz,

If you bring a bag weighing 30kg you will not have to buy a business class set, you will just need to pay the extra baggage fee. For economy class on your route, the extra baggage fee applies to anything over 20kg.

            Thanks for reading!

          • My family and I are flying from Heathrow to Istanbul to Antalya. I bought this ticket through an online travel agent, does that still mean I get 23kg of free baggage allowance individually or does it mean that it’s for the whole group?
            Thank you for assisting me!

          • Hi Shopna,

Each person flying will receive 23kg in free baggage allowance!

            Thanks for reading!

  5. Hi, I need help to clarify some things for Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles. I’m already an Elite member and as such, I’m entitled to an additional 20kg baggage allowance. Does this mean that on top of the 30kg I have from my base fare, I still get 20kg extra for checked in baggage? Thank you.

    Reply

    • Catherine Luther April 17, 2019

      Hi Alfonso,

Yes that is correct – the 20kg would be in addition to your baggage allowance. If you would like to refer to the section on the Turkish Airlines website that states this, please see https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-gb/any-questions/baggage-information/free-baggage-rules/. I have attached a screenshot of where this is mentioned. Just be mindful of the maximum 32kg weight of one bag – Turkish Airlines won’t accept a piece heavier than this so you will need to distribute across multiple pieces to use the full allowance.

      Hope this helps!

    • Catherine Luther April 23, 2019

      Hi Monica,

Turkish Airlines has a maximum weight allowance of 8kg for a piece of carry-on so you would risk having to check this item. You are also permitted to bring on board a personal item such as a handbag, so you could distribute some of the weight into that item.

Checked allowance is 20kg, so you would incur excess baggage fees for the additional 14.5kg you would be taking. Cape Town is region 5 and Malta region 2 and the cost per kilogram is EUR22. The total excess cost would be EUR319.

      Hope this helps!

  7. Hello, I would like to ask about the extra luggage fee. I am flying from London to Almaty, through Istanbul. On my ticket, it says that I am allowed 1 luggage max 30 kg (economy). So, if I want to take extra luggage of 30 kg, how much should I pay? And as far as I know I have to pay on the flying day, right?

    Thank you very much.

    Reply

    • Hi Salta, according to Turkish Airlines website for excess baggage fees, when it comes to excess for international flights the fee is assessed per each kg of extra baggage on a regional concept. According to that same link, London is Region 4 and Almaty is Region 2 and the fee for 1kg of excess weight would be 17EUR. To find the cost of another bag of 30kg you would simply take 17EUR x30 = 510EUR.

This seems a bit excessive… So, since we are not Turkish Airlines, we would suggest calling their customer service line to confirm.

To answer your second question, as you can see from the “Can I Pre-pay for Baggage” section above, Turkish Airlines does NOT allow passengers the ability to pre-pay. Therefore, passengers must pay any excess baggage fees during the check-in process at the airport.

      Hi Shubhangi,

When a ticket states a weight allowance, it’s usually referring to your checked luggage allowance. Turkish Airlines does state on its baggage policy that ‘Free baggage allowance may vary depending on reservation class and route’ and some travelers have reported higher checked allowances for Economy on certain routes. If your ticket states a 30kg allowance (with no mention of this applying to checked and carry-on luggage) then you should be ok but we recommend you contact Turkish Airlines to confirm this. These are the contact details of their office in Delhi: +91 12 4419 3000 / +91 12 4419 3011-12 or [email protected].

      Hi Cindy,

Turkish Airlines made some changes in recent months to their baggage policy and this included changing some of the destinations that worked on the piece concept (allowing 2 x 23kg bags). The route you are taking would work on the weight concept so the allowance for Economy would be 20kg total weight. This could be split across 2 x 10kg bags if you choose to.

      Hope this helps!

    • Hi Abdi! First, please be informed that we are not Turkish Airlines, we are Upgraded Points – a website that published points and miles based articles as well as additional travel-related articles such as this baggage fee post.

That being said, we did include the link to Turkish Airlines’ definition of regions above in the post. If you go there, you’ll see that Manchester is Region 4, and Mogadishu is Region 5. Turkish Airlines charges fees on excess weight PER KILO. So, if you wanted to buy 20 extra kilos, excess baggage should cost you ~$30.50 USD per kilo or $610.

This seems a bit extreme so you may want to go ahead and call Turkish Airlines’ reservation/customer service number and inquire with them directly.

Now, first I wonder whether or not I can have one extra bag as check-in baggage with additional payment? Also, I read on the excess baggage page that I should pay $160 for one more bag (the third one). Am I right? Is that $160 for a direct flight from Istanbul to Toronto/Canada?

    Reply

    • Hi Bob, your research seems right to me! From looking at Turkish Airlines’ baggage policy it seems flights to Canada work on their ‘piece system’ and that Toronto is Region 1, so for one extra bag (your third), I would expect to pay $160.

Just a note – I’m not sure if you have a round trip flight scheduled but baggage fees are usually applied on a one-way charge basis, so you would also pay this fee upon your return flight.

Lastly, as a reminder, we are not Turkish Airlines so we’re simply commenting here having done our research on their policies as best we can. For the most accurate information regarding your question we always advise calling the reservation/customer service line for the airline in question.

      Hi Liaqat,

As per the Turkish Airlines baggage policy, the airline permits 20kg of checked luggage for Economy passengers and 30kg for Business Class passengers. That route works on a weight concept so you can split your allowance across multiple bags if you choose to.

The carry-on allowance is 1 bag (8kg) for Economy passengers and 2 bags (8kg each) for Business Class passengers. Both cabins are permitted to also bring a personal item such as a handbag or laptop bag.

      Hi Umama,

Flights to and from the USA work on the piece allowance for checked luggage, and as long as these two flights have been booked together on one ticket, then the allowance would apply from the longest flight leg (which would be Istanbul to New York.) If flying in economy class, then the allowance would be 2 x 23kg bags and if flying in business class, 2 x 32kg bags. The maximum linear size of each bag is 158cm.

The carry-on luggage allowance is 1 bag for economy passengers and 2 bags for business class. A carry-on bag must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm or 8kg. Every passenger is also permitted to bring a smaller personal item such as a handbag or laptop bag.

Hope your father has a good trip.

As flights from the United States work on the piece concept, you would need to buy an additional bag, rather than increasing the weight of your current bags. Using Turkish Airlines’ excess baggage table, Houston is classed as ‘piece region 1’ and Budapest is ‘region 2’, which would be USD170 for an extra 23kg bag.

When it comes to detailed issues that arise outside of basic published policies, it’s always best to call the specific airline in question and speak with their customer service directly.

Each airline has its own written (and sometimes unwritten) policies for situations like this and some are more strict than others. I would ASSUME, that they won’t allow you to do this as most airlines are usually pretty particular on how they divide baggage weight/fees per fare purchased but it’s worth a phone call!

As Turkish Airlines does not state whether pooling luggage between travel companions is permitted, it would be down to the check-in assistant at the airport. To avoid the risk of excess luggage charges, we would recommend you contact the airline directly to query this and get something in writing to show at the airport if this is permitted. The same applies to the baggage size question. We would assume the size would be the same as the piece concept, but Turkish Airlines will confirm this for you.

      Hi Ibtissam,

I’m not aware of your circumstances (what cabin you’re flying in or if you have frequent flyer elite status) but Turkish Airlines permits passengers to bring 20kg of luggage if traveling in Economy and 30kg if traveling in Business Class. You mentioned 40kg of luggage, is this what is printed on your ticket? If you have baggage that exceeds your allowance then there is always the chance with any airline of being charged excess baggage fees.

For hand luggage you are permitted 1 standard carry-on weighing up to 8kg plus 1 additional personal item. No weight allowance is specified for the personal item. You mentioned having a laptop, handbag and a standard carry-on piece – just be aware that you are only permitted 1 personal item in addition to your standard carry-on bag.

Your free baggage allowance on this route is 2 x 23 kg of luggage. To take an extra bag (23 kg) the cost is $195 USD. According to Turkish Airlines’ baggage t’s & c’s, for piece concept routes, they charge a fee of $80 USD for bags weighing 23-32 kg. So as long as your first 2 bags do not exceed 23 kg then you would be charged $195 USD + $80 USD = $275 USD.

According to Turkish Airlines’ baggage t’s & c’s for piece concept routes, they charge a fee of $80 USD for bags weighing 23-32 kg so if you have 1 x 23 kg and 1 x 32 kg you would be charged $80 USD.

        Hi,

Your article is so impressive and informative. Just want to seek your help. My parents are going to fly back to Jakarta from Birmingham (BHX), we bought the tickets from online travel agency, Go to Gate. On the travel document it says the checked baggage allowance is: baggage allowed 30 kg, hand luggage included. Does it mean I only have 23 kg allowed for checked baggage (2 pcs allowed) + 7 kg carry on?

        Many thanks.

          Hi Dee,

Happy to hear you found the article useful!

Birmingham to Jakarta would work on the weight concept, with Economy passengers being permitted 20 kg of checked luggage and Business Class passengers, 30 kg. Assuming your parents are flying in Economy, the combined weight that has been stated is unusual as a carry-on item can weigh up to 8 kg. Unless it’s allowing 2 kg for the personal item but the weight is undisclosed on Turkish Airways website and should just be a small item such as a handbag or laptop.

We advise you contact Go to Gate or Turkish Airlines directly to clarify what is accurate for your ticket.

    • Catherine Luther June 27, 2019

      Hi Sharmin,

As your destination works on the weight concept, you have a free baggage allowance of 20 kg. You could take 32 kg of luggage but you would need to pay the excess for the additional 12 kg. The cost would depend on where you are flying from and you can use the table above to calculate this.

    Reply

    • Hi Sam, as you can see in our explanation above, flights from/to San Francisco operate on the “Piece System” so an extra bag should cost you $290 to check. We say “should” because we’re not Turkish Airlines and we’re simply interpreting the information they present on their website.

If you’re at all unsure about this answer, I would suggest calling Turkish Airlines Customer Service and inquiring with them directly.

They purchased economy class tickets through Gotogate website. On their confirmations, it says that “2 baggages are allowed (23kg), carry on included”. My questions precisely are if the carry on is one of those two bags and if each bag separately is 23kg or the two together should be 23kg.

          Hi Julia,

Flights on Turkish Airlines to/from the United States have an allowance of 2 x 23 kg checked bags for economy passengers (this is 2 separate bags up to 23 kg, not a combined weight). Your carry-on allowance is not included within this allowance so you can bring a carry-on bag weighing up to 8 kg and a small personal item (handbag or laptop bag).

According to Turkish Airlines excess baggage fees, flights to and from Ghana are charged $250 USD for the 1st excess bag. This would be for 23 kg if you’re flying in Economy. There would be an additional $80 fee for the excess 23 – 32 kg.

Unfortunately I did not book the tickets on transit and it’s paid separately, but thinking to check the bags to their final destination (Antalya). Would I still need to pay the excess baggage of 15kg for the domestic route from Istanbul to Antalya even if I check the bags to their final destination?

      Hi Mario,

Turkish Airlines states “Passengers who land to a point between the departure airport and the arrival airport and continue their travel with the same flight number are referred to as transit passengers”. They don’t reference whether you’re able to check your bags through (without a fee) on two separately booked flights. We advise you give Turkish Airlines a call to confirm this.

I really want to have her stroller with as far in as possible to the gate/street. I have heard from others that you have to take a stroller and deliver it to cabin staff and get it immediately when you have to leave the plane. I can’t see what the goals and kg must be. I have a stroller of about 10kg and the measurements folded: approx. 97 x 59.5 x 25 (LxWxH). We have no other luggage besides a stroller and small hand bag with diaper and miscellaneous for my daughter.

    • Catherine Luther July 30, 2019

      Hi Sibel,

According to Turkish Airlines “Strollers for infant passengers can only be transported in the cargo hold. However, infants in their strollers can be brought as far as the plane entrance, where guardians can hand over the stroller to staff. At the end of the flight, the stroller will be unloaded by our staff and given back to the guardian.”

Turkish Airlines’ website does not reference sizes for collapsible strollers. As they don’t, I’m sure your measurements would be fine, but you might want to give them a call to double check as it exceeds the normal max linear dimensions of a checked item.

That route uses the weight concept with 20 kg of free luggage permitted for Economy passengers. Additional luggage is charged per kilogram and is calculated by the region of departure and region of arrival. India is region 5 and Germany is region 3, so excess baggage is charged at $27 per kilogram. If you require an additional 26 kg, then you’re looking at around $702.

If you booked your flights on 1 ticket then your allowance to the United States would be 2 x 23kg (flying Economy) so if they do not have any special requirements for seafarers, then you would need to distribute 2 kg of weight into your 2nd bag to avoid excess charges.

We can try to assist with a rough calculation of excess baggage using Turkish Airlines’ excess baggage table but we would need to know the airport that you are flying to?

1 personal item: size undisclosed but usually a handbag or laptop bag size.
1 standard carry-on bag: 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. Maximum weight for each item is 8 kg

      Hi Dimitris,

That route works on the weight concept with the following allowance:
      Economy Class: 20 kg
      Promotional Fares: 15 kg

You would then also have your 8 kg of carry-on, plus a personal item.

We advise you do check the allowance stated on your ticket as there are some exclusions to certain destinations and your ticket will tell you the most accurate information for you baggage allowance.

I am looking for my parents who are coming from Tehran to Miami. How much is extra weight if you are above 23kg?
I suggest you pay a programmer and have people select their Origin and Destination and then it will present the rules for that specific flight. Instead of a 10-page site that we have to go up and down. Not efficient.

It seems that you may have been looking at the incorrect chart as there are two included in the post that give the prices for excess baggage. Since your parents are traveling from Tehran (Region 4) to Miami (a piece region), they will have to pay the charge for another bag if they exceed the 23kg limit. That charge for this route would be $220.

Routes to/from Kinshasa work on the piece region, so you would need to purchase additional bags of a set weight (23kg if you’re flying in economy, 32 kg if you’re flying in business class). Turkish Airlines works on a piece allowance for some international routes (list of destinations in article above) with Economy passengers allowed 2 pieces (23kg each) and Business Class allowed 2 pieces (32kg each). If you’re traveling to a destination that uses the piece baggage concept then the maximum weight per piece would depend on your fare type – 23 kg for Economy and 32 kg for Business. IF you traveling to a weight concept route then the maximum weight per piece would be 32 kg. You can see the baggage concept definitions in the article.

      Hi Jacks,

The carry-on allowance depends on the fare type:
      Economy: 1 standard carry-on bag
      Business: 2 standard carry-on bags

All passengers may also bring a personal item. The standard carry-on must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm and the maximum weight for each item is 8 kg.

For checked luggage, those destinations are region 4 and region 5, so excess luggage is charged at $30.50 per kilogram.

      23 kg bag x $30.50 = $701
      32 kg bag x $30.50 = $976

      Hope that helps

This could depend on the check-in agent on the day so unfortunately we can’t advise whether this would be ok. Turkish Airlines’s information is a little ambiguous regarding the personal item so you might want to give them a call to clarify or leave a little room in your checked piece if asked to transfer some weight.

In the case you’ve described, either you or your husband (whoever the 2nd bag is assigned to) will be over their baggage allowance and have to pay overweight charges.

If you want to bring just 3 bags I recommend you have 30 kgs in one bag, and 15 kgs in each of the remaining two.

      Thanks for reading!

    Hi Jarrod,
    Thank you for your response.
In our travel document, it is printed that as follows:
    Passenger 1
    Class = W
Free allowance = Permitted luggage 30KG
    1 hand luggage 8kg (55x40x23cm)
    Passenger 2
    Class = W
Free allowance = Permitted luggage 30KG
    1 hand luggage 8kg (55x40x23cm)

Therefore, combinedly we are permitted to carry 60kg luggage. We are family and will be traveling together. Our point is that two baggage each weighing 30kg is a bit difficult to handle. Instead, it would be easier to handle if we can divide the total of 60 kg into three baggage, for example, 20+20+20kg or 22+20+18Kg.
Can you please confirm us whether we are allowed to do so?

    • Hi Manisha,

I cannot say definitely as we do not represent, or have any affiliation with Turkish Airlines. We are Upgraded Points, and educational travel website that teaches readers how to utilize points and miles to make their travel more affordable.

Based on the terms stated on the Turkish Airlines website, I think it is unlikely they will allow this. However, for an exact answer to your question, I recommend you contact the Turkish Airlines customer service team directly.

  134. Hello,

We are traveling from Tirana to Luxembourg (a family of 2 adults and 2 kids) and we would like to bring 2 additional suitcases up to 20kg each in addition to our allowed ones. So, in total it will be 4 x 20kg suitcases included in the ticket price + 2 x 20kg in addition more:
1- how much should we pay extra?
2- can we purchase them online or do we have to pay for them at the airport?

    thanks

      Hi Ana,

For that route, additional weight would be charged at $13.50 per kilogram, so an additional 40 kgs would cost $540.

I’m traveling from Port Harcourt, Nigeria to JFK New York in economy class. What is my maximum excess luggage and how much will it cost? Can I pay the excess luggage fee online prior to my traveling date?

    • Hi Obinna,

For this route, you should be permitted to bring 1 personal item, 1 carry-on item, and 2 checked bags weighing up to 23 kgs each. As far as excess baggage goes you can bring as much as you’d like keeping in mind that your 1st and 2nd extra bag will be $290 each, and a further $359 for each bag after that.

  140. Hi everyone.

I have a quick question regarding extra carry-on luggages. I am flying from Chicago to Chisinau with Economy. I might need to get a second carry-on luggage (check-in is not an option, it’s very fragile stuff).

What would be the cost for a second carry-on luggage?

    Thank you!

      Hi Erica,

Unfortunately it’s not possible to purchase additional carry-on luggage with most airlines, including Turkish Airlines. This is usually due to capacity in the overhead lockers and passenger safety. Your only option would be to purchase checked luggage.

My son is returning to New Delhi from U.S. (SFO) after his studies. He has 5 suitcases in total.
2 of them can come as free baggage allowance. What would be the cost for additional 3 suitcases? Considering 2 of them would be around 30 kgs and 1 of 23 kgs……pls advise

      Hi Vikas,

An additional 23 kg bag would cost $250. Turkish Airlines then charges an $80 for any pieces exceeding 23 kg. 3 x $250 + 2 x $80 so the total cost would be $910.

      Hi Max,

Traveling from the United States, your baggage allowance should be 2 x 50 pound bags. As the box is large it is likely that you’ll be charged an oversized fee, but you’ll need to contact the airline for information as they don’t disclose this on their website.

For that route, Turkish Airlines charges $18 per kilogram, so an additional 16 kg would cost $288.

      Hi Ayo,

Infants have a 10 kg baggage allowance plus a stroller that do not exceed 115 cm. An additional 23 kg bag would cost around $220.

      Hi S,

If you’re flying in economy class then your baggage allowance for this route should be 20 kg of checked luggage. If the box does not exceed max linear dimensions of 62 inches (158 cm) then it should be fine as checked luggage. You would then have 10 kg left to use for any personal checked luggage.

    • Hi Doni,

You are able to check two bags but you will likely be charged $30.50 per kilogram for this route in excess baggage. For a total of $274.50.

I am travelling from Dublin to Malaysia. My ticket says that I am allowed 30kg baggage allowance, can I divide my weight into 2 bags (rather than having 30kg in one, can I make 2 x 15kgs bag? Please help me. Thank you 😊

    • Catherine Luther March 17, 2020

      Hi Reena,

As that route works on a weight allowance, Turkish airlines permits passengers to split the weight allowance across multiple pieces. So 2 x 15kg bags would be fine.
