With a portfolio of 679 properties in 54 countries, the Hyatt Hotels Corporation is one of the largest global hospitality companies in the world. It oversees 12 premier brands across 6 continents.

Hyatt’s past loyalty program was called Hyatt Gold Passport. However, starting March 1, 2017, the company unveiled the new World of Hyatt program, a rebrand of the Hyatt Gold Passport program.

For that reason, we will begin by showing you the many ways to earn points through Gold Passport. At the end, we’ll include some strategies for earning points in the World of Hyatt program so you’ll be prepared when the changes take place.

Part 2: Earning Miles With World of Hyatt

On March 1, 2017, World of Hyatt will launch as a new approach to earning reward points, redeeming points, and achieving status with Hyatt. With World of Hyatt, you’ll continue to earn 5 base points per $1 on stays, dining, spa services, and more, just like with Gold Passport.

Until the transition begins, you will continue to earn Platinum or Diamond tier status. Any tier-qualifying nights and base points you earn during January and February 2017 will count toward status in World of Hyatt.

Don’t worry, you get to keep your existing membership number, profile, and login credentials! Here’s how the tiers will translate:

Upcoming changes to the Hyatt Gold Passport program as it turns into the World of Hyatt.

Note that Hyatt will award you a higher status in World of Hyatt if your 2016 activity would have qualified you.

Base Points and Bonus Points

Beginning January 1, 2017, you will see your base points and bonus points in your Hyatt account.

Base Points: You earn base points when paying eligible charges for hotel stays as well as Hyatt dining, spa, and other experiences.

Base points are the only type of points to count toward your tier status, which we will discuss in the next section. Base points can also be redeemed for rewards in the World of Hyatt program.

Bonus Points: Bonus reward points are any points not labeled as base points. For example, elite status percentage bonuses, Planner Reward bonuses, and promotional offers are all bonus points.

While you can redeem bonus points for rewards in the World of Hyatt program just like base points, you cannot count them toward elite status.

New Elite Status Tiers

After March 1, 2017, you can forget about Diamond and Platinum tiers. The World of Hyatt program expands to 3 elite status tiers: Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist. (“Member” is still the basic level.)

Elite Status TierQualificationBonus Points
Discoverist10 tier-qualifying nights or 25,000 base points10%
Explorist30 tier-qualifying nights or 50,000 base points
Globalist60 tier-qualifying nights or 100,000 base points

Note that the highest number of bonus points remains 30%, the same as with the Gold Passport program. Also, those with an active Hyatt Credit Card account will automatically begin at the Discoverist tier.

What Are Tier-Qualifying Nights? Anytime you stay the night at a Hyatt property or an M life Resort and pay an eligible rate, you earn a tier-qualifying night. You must provide your World of Hyatt membership number when making a reservation.

Below is a partial list of the elite status benefits in World of Hyatt. Find a complete list of benefits here.

The new benefits of World of Hyatt are set up to provide more incentive to want to move to the next level, with smaller jumps between status tiers.

New Meeting Planner Details

Because there are changes to the Meeting Planner terms and conditions with World of Hyatt, it’s important to review them before booking an event.

The biggest change is the way meeting planners can earn status. The calculation is based on the number of qualifying events in each calendar year:

Elite Status# of Events

To earn points for events, the organizer (individual or company) must have 10 or more paid rooms for at least 1 night of the meeting, and the total number of points that can be earned is 50,000.

You can split these reward points between up to 3 parties (a combination of individuals or companies).

Earning Miles With Avis

The Avis program remains the same with World of Hyatt. Members will continue to receive up to 25% off base rates and earn up to 500 bonus points.

The process of earning miles with Hyatt Gold Passport and World of Hyatt will stay pretty much the same. Hopefully, we’ve shown you some of the best strategies for earning as many points as possible.

Soon you’ll be enjoying the fruits of your labor by redeeming your reward points for free nights and more!
