Bilt Obsidian Card — Is It Worth It?
After transitioning away from Wells Fargo, the brand-new Obsidian Card (rates & fees) serves as the midtier option in the new range of Bilt credit cards, which also includes the Bilt Blue Card (rates & fees) and the Bilt Palladium Card (rates & fees).
With the introduction of the new Bilt credit cards also comes a shakeup to the Bilt Rewards program, which has implications for how the Obsidian Card earns rewards.
As of February 7, 2026, Bilt Cash becomes an additional currency within the Bilt Rewards ecosystem (up to $100 of Bilt Cash earned rolls over to the next year). Bilt Cash is a flexible currency that can unlock enhanced transfer bonuses, expanded travel and lifestyle redemptions, and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to earn the full up to 1.25x points on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee (rates & fees).
With the Obsidian Card, choose to earn 4% Bilt Cash on everyday purchases (offer terms).
Every $30 in Bilt Cash unlocks the ability to earn 1,000 points on housing payments. In other words, if you have a $2,000 mortgage or rent payment, you’ll need to redeem $60 in Bilt Cash to unlock your 2,000 Bilt Points (at the up to 1x rate). With a 4% Bilt Cash earning on everyday purchases, you’ll need to spend $1,500 on your card each month (outside of your rent or mortgage payment) to earn this much Bilt Cash.
The Obsidian Card charges a $95 annual fee (rates & fees). In addition to choosing to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, the card also offers an appealing points-earning structure, especially if you dine out frequently or spend a significant amount on groceries each month. Here’s what it looks like:
- Up to 1.25x points on rent and mortgage payments
- 1x points on everyday purchases
- 3x points on your choice of dining or grocery purchases, up to $25,000 per year. You can change categories from year to year.
- 2x points on travel purchases
- Everyday purchases aside from rent or mortgage payments can also earn 4% back in Bilt Cash
Bilt Obsidian Card Top Benefits and Perks

Best Ways To Earn and Redeem Bilt Points
Using your card for all of your daily purchases is the best way to rack up both types of rewards that Bilt offers, Bilt Points and Bilt Cash. The Obsidian Card earns up to 1.25x points on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee, 3x points and the option to earn 4% Bilt Cash on dining or groceries (up to $25,000 per year), 2x points and the option to earn 4% Bilt Cash on travel purchases, and 1x points and the option to earn 4% Bilt Cash on everyday purchases.
However, remember that in order to earn your full rewards on your rent and mortgage payments, you’ll need to redeem $3 of Bilt Cash for every 100 points on housing payments you want to unlock.
Outside of your card spend, you can also earn bonus points through the Bilt Dining program, Lyft rides, fitness classes, Walgreens purchases, and more. Cardholders also earn double rewards on the first day of every month (Rent Day) on all eligible purchases except rent and mortgage payments, up to 1,000 bonus points.
Once you’re ready to redeem your rewards, you can use your Bilt Cash to unlock rewards for rent and mortgage payments, Bilt Travel purchases, neighborhood spending, and more. As for your Bilt Points, Bilt offers an impressive collection of transfer partners, including Air Canada Aeroplan, Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards, Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, and World of Hyatt, many of which can be transferred at a 1:1 ratio.
Alternative Cards to the Bilt Obsidian Card
For anyone who wants to earn rewards on their rent and mortgage in addition to bonus earnings on everyday purchases, the Palladium Card (rates & fees) may be the best option.
It does charge an annual fee of $495 (rates & fees), but the card earns up to 1.25x points on rent and mortgage payments, along with 2x points and the option to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on all other transactions. Plus, it comes with meaningful travel benefits, up to $200 in Bilt Cash annually, and a generous welcome bonus offer: Subject to approval: Earn 50,000 points after spending $4,000 on non-housing expenses in the first 90 days + Gold elite status. And, $300 Bilt Cash when you apply and get approved (). (offer terms).
For those who don’t want to pay an annual credit card fee, the Blue Card (rates & fees) is the ideal option. It earns up to 1.25x points on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee, along with 1x points and the option to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on all other purchases.
Since it is a $0-annual-fee card (rates & fees), you don’t receive many perks, but it does come with cellular wireless telephone protection and no foreign transaction fees (rates & fees).*
