Delayed: JFK’s New Terminal One Won’t Open This Year

New York JFK‘s New Terminal One confirmed this week that it will not open this year, as originally planned. We can now expect the opening date for the 2.6-million-square-foot terminal to be sometime in 2027. In a statement to The Points Guy, a spokesperson for the terminal said it wouldn’t open until all systems and processes had been tested properly.

American Considers Nonstop LAX to Singapore Flights

American Airlines chief commercial officer, Nat Pieper, suggested last week that Asia could become a focus region again from Los Angeles (LAX). This week, aviation insider JonNYC took to X to highlight Singapore as American’s potential first new route. The airline hopes its new premium aircraft, such as the Boeing 787-9P and retrofitted Boeing 777s, could put it in contention with the ultra-premium Asian carriers.

JFK Will Get a Huge New Air France Lounge Next Year

Back to JFK’s New Terminal One for a minute, where Air France has confirmed it will open a new lounge that will become the largest outside its Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) hub. Passengers who will have access to the 2-story location include those flying Air France La Première and business class (excluding light fares), as well as eligible travelers flying KLM and SkyTeam member airlines and SkyTeam Elite Plus status holders. If it’s anything like the new locations at Los Angeles and London Heathrow (LHR), then we’re in for a treat.

United MileagePlus Members Get Free Air Canada Wi-Fi

If you’re flying Air Canada, you don’t necessarily need to make an Aeroplan account to connect to the airline’s complimentary Wi-Fi. As recently discovered by Your Mileage May Vary, having a United MileagePlus membership number in your booking also qualifies passengers for complimentary connectivity. Just make sure you add your number before the flight. It also works for tickets booked using miles.

Etihad Unveils New Lounge Concept

Etihad‘s ongoing Beyond Borders rebrand is extending to its international lounges. The first lounge to adopt the so-called “from sand to superstructure” concept will debut at London Heathrow when the refurbishment of the current lounge is finished in 2027.

Etihad sends the Airbus A380 — its most premium aircraft — to Heathrow up to 3 times a day. The aircraft features Etihad’s largest business class cabin, The Apartment (its best first class product), as well as the ultra-luxe The Residence, so it’s fitting that the lounge at Heathrow will be the first to get an upgrade.

New and Returning Routes From Delta and Frontier

Delta will resume flights to Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) for the first time in almost 19 years this holiday season. Twice-daily service from Los Angeles and daily service from Salt Lake City (SLC) will start on December 19. Both routes will be operated by Delta’s fleet of Embraer 175 jets.

In Detroit (DTW), Frontier will continue to pick up Spirit’s old routes when it launches new nonstop services to New York LaGuardia (LGA) on November 20. The year-round service will operate daily during peak holiday travel seasons, and 3 times per week throughout the rest of the year.

Edelwiess Air’s New Airbus A350 Economy, Premium, Business Cabins

SWISS’ leisure-focused subsidiary Edelweiss has unveiled its new-look Airbus A350 cabins. The carrier will retrofit 6 Airbus A350s that previously flew for LATAM with new business class, premium economy, and economy cabins, with the first plane set to reenter service in June 2027. When the entire fleet is updated by October 2027, they’ll be introduced on the airline’s U.S.-bound routes to Las Vegas (LAS) and Tampa (TPA).

Final Thoughts

JFK’s New Terminal One has been a long time coming, but thanks to Air France and the 5 other airlines’ new lounges, it should be worth the wait. And over on the West Coast, it will be interesting to see if American’s potential nonstop from L.A. to Singapore comes to fruition.
