American Airlines is expanding its international footprint by adding 7 new routes next summer.

The additions include expanded frequencies to existing destinations and a handful of entirely new destinations for the carrier.

Here’s where American Airlines can take you next summer.

American’s Summer 2027 Network Expansion

Following this week’s blockbuster route announcement from United Airlines, American Airlines has dropped a slew of new international routes of its own that will start next summer. Note that a few of these routes have been previously announced, but there’s still plenty to get excited about for AA flyers.

First, let’s start with the routes we’ve already known about. Earlier this summer, American announced its intent to serve Porto (OPO), Portugal, from its Philadelphia (PHL) hub. Now, we have more details. The route will commence on March 28, 2027, and will be operated by the carrier’s new narrow-body Airbus A321XLR.

After the Porto announcement, AA shared it would resume daily nonstop service between Chicago (ORD) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) after a multi-year hiatus. The route will begin earlier than previously thought, taking off on March 19, 2027, and will be operated by the Boeing 787-9.

Now, for the new stuff. The Icelandic capital, Reykjavik (KEF), will return to American’s route map when it launches nonstop Airbus A321neo service from Philadelphia on May 27, 2027.

Next, AA will become the only U.S. carrier to serve Vienna (VIE) when it starts nonstop flights on board the Airbus A321XLR from Philadelphia on May 6, 2027. The Philadelphia-Vienna route will run for an “extended season” through early January 2028, making it optimal for travelers to experience the Christmas markets the gleaming Austrian capital is known for. Once Vienna is added to the route map, American will serve the 3 major Central European cities —Budapest (BUD), Prague (PRG), and Vienna — nonstop from the U.S.

From Charlotte (CLT), the airline will add nonstop flights to Barcelona (BCN) with its Boeing 777-200ER. This new route will begin on May 27, 2027. The North Carolina hub will become the sixth gateway from which American serves the Catalonian capital.

AA is also making a few additions from New York (JFK). Amsterdam (AMS) flights will begin on March 28, 2027, and Nice (NCE) flights on May 6, 2027. Both destinations will be served by the Airbus A321XLR. The carrier also offers nonstop service to Amsterdam seasonally from Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and year-round from Philadelphia, plus flights Nice seasonally from Philadelphia.

Finally, on March 28, 2027, American will add a fourth daily frequency from JFK to London (LHR) on its Boeing 787-9 equipped with its new Flagship Suites product.

Tickets for all of these routes will go on sale on August 31, 2026. You can purchase at aa.com or through the carrier’s mobile app (iOS, Android).

Hot Tip:

Once these new routes go on sale, check AAdvantage award availability right away, as Airlines sometimes release saver-level award space when new routes go on sale. However, the best seats can disappear quickly.

Final Thoughts

Not wanting to be left out of the summer 2027 fun, American Airlines has also announced a range of new routes. The additions include more flights to existing destinations and new cities entirely. Plus, AA will be the only U.S. airline to serve Vienna nonstop, which is exciting.

As a reminder, all of these new routes go on sale on August 31, so you have a few days to get creative with your summer plans before it’s time to book.
