San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is working on a big renovation project for its Terminal 3, which has necessitated the closure of its Centurion Lounge.

As a result, Amex has now opened a temporary space in Terminal 2 while work continues in Terminal 3.

Let’s take a look at the details and how it will affect your travels.

Temporary Centurion Lounge Opens in Terminal 2

The American Express Centurion Lounge SFO has closed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to allow for the terminal construction project to continue. Amex plans to reopen its San Francisco lounge in 2027, but no specific date has been announced.

Eligible travelers will still have an Amex lounge to visit when passing through SFO. A temporary location is now open in Terminal 2 in the space of the former Alaska Lounge, which was an American Airlines Admirals Club before that. It’s located by gate D12, near the concourse entrance, by Compass Books and Napa Farms Market. The temporary space will remain open until just before the permanent lounge reopens in a renovated Terminal 3 in 2027.

Because all terminals at SFO are connected post-security, travelers shouldn’t have problems accessing the temporary space in Terminal 2. However, it’s likely this lounge won’t be up to the typical Centurion Lounge standard. It lacks a full kitchen and will be about 6,000 square feet smaller than the permanent location in Terminal 3.

While this isn’t an ideal situation, it’s great that eligible flyers will still have a place to relax, recharge, use the restroom, have a drink or a snack, and more before their flight.

Hot Tip:

Eligible cardmembers can also access these lounges at SFO: China Airlines Dynasty Lounge, The Club SFO, Delta Sky Club, Golden Gate Lounge, and Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse.

Final Thoughts

Terminal 3 at San Francisco International Airport is getting a big makeover, and the Centurion Lounge had to close to allow the work to progress. Until it reopens in 2027, Amex has taken over another former lounge space in Terminal 2 so eligible flyers can still access an Amex lounge at the airport.

Don’t expect the temporary space to provide the same experience as a typical Centurion Lounge, but it’s great that there will be an option to utilize while we wait for the permanent location to reopen in Terminal 3.
