American Express Membership Rewards

We value Amex Membership Rewards points at 2.2 cents per point thanks to their variety of redemption options, including transferring to the Amex transfer partners allowing you to book luxury travel experiences like business class flights for a fraction of the cost. Given that, we value 60,000 Amex Membership Rewards points at $1,320.

60,000 points would be a great welcome bonus offer on its own, but new cardmembers also earn 20% back on eligible travel and transit purchases for up to $200 back in the form of a statement credit. Eligible travel purchases include airfare, hotels, rental cars, vacation rentals, etc., and eligible transit purchases include trains, ferries, buses, subways, rideshares, and more.

Between the points and 20% back on eligible travel and transit purchases (up to $200 back), this brings the overall value of this welcome offer to upwards of $1,520 based on our valuations.

Thanks to the wide variety of Amex transfer partners, there is no shortage of ways to redeem your Amex Membership Rewards points for huge travel value.

For instance, you could transfer 50,000 points to Virgin Atlantic to book a one-way business class ticket in Delta One between the U.S. and Europe — a ticket that would ordinarily cost around $2,500.

If you prefer to stretch your points even further, you can use a transfer partner such as British Airways to book economy short-haul awards on American Airlines for as few as 7,500 points for flights under 650 miles (like Denver to Las Vegas) or 9,000 points for flights under 1,150 (like New York City to Miami).
