In 2023, Marriott announced it would enter into a licensing agreement with Sonder, which operates short-term rentals and apartment hotels. In late 2024, we saw the ability to book these properties through Marriott.

However, that news didn’t come with any details about earnings for Marriott Bonvoy loyalists. Now, we have those details.

Here are the points and stay credits you’ll earn at Sonder by Marriott properties, as well as the elite perks available during your visit.

Sonder by Marriott Details

Sonder by Marriott hotels can be booked through Marriott’s website and mobile app. As originally reported in October 2024, you’ll earn the same number of points here as you will at other full-service Marriott brands:

  • 10x Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on room rates at Sonder hotels
  • 5x Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on room rates at Sonder apartments

For all bookings, you’ll earn 1 elite night credit per qualifying night and can redeem Marriott Bonvoy points on your stay. However, Sonder properties haven’t fully integrated into Marriott’s website yet, so not everything is as easy as you’d expect. The full integration should come later this year.

You also must book your stay at least 7 days before arrival, and you cannot book, modify, or rebook an award stay within 7 days of arrival. Additionally, you can only redeem Marriott Bonvoy points — not free night awards. Additionally, fifth-night free awards do not apply to Sonder reservations. Lastly, Marriott’s updated terms say that you won’t earn points on “food and beverage charges or other ancillary charges” at Sonder by Marriott properties.

Bottom Line:

If you want to redeem points for Sonder by Marriott properties, it’s easy to earn lots of Marriott Bonvoy points. Marriott has 3 transfer partners: American Express Membership RewardsBilt Rewards, and Chase Ultimate Rewards. The hotel giant also has several co-branded credit cards with massive welcome bonuses.

Elite Perks

Those with Marriott Bonvoy elite status will also enjoy several perks at Sonder by Marriott properties. All members will be eligible for the Ultimate Reservation Guarantee, as well.

Silver Elite members will enjoy 10% bonus points and priority late checkout, based on availability. Those with Gold Elite status will gain additional perks: 25% bonus points, 2 p.m. late checkout and room upgrades (when available), and an elite welcome gift of 500 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points per stay.

Platinum Elite members gain even more perks, including 50% bonus points, 4 p.m. late checkout (when available), dedicated elite support, and a welcome gift of 1,000 points per stay. For Titanium Elite members, additional perks include 75% bonus points and 48-hour guaranteed availability. The 2 additional perks for Ambassador Elite members are Your24 and ambassador service.

There are a few caveats to note. At Sonder apartments, the 4 p.m. late checkout is based on availability, but 2 p.m. late checkout is guaranteed for Platinum Elite and higher members. Additionally, at Sonder Apartments, the 48-hour guaranteed availability only applies to standard rooms.

About Sonder by Marriott

Sonder launched back in 2014 as an answer to a market (made up primarily of business travelers) looking for high-end, apartment-like options. You’ll find Sonder properties in 45+ cities, including Amsterdam, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and New York. But Sonder isn’t like your typical hotel. In fact, it’s almost entirely self-service. You’ll check in, make room requests, and even get city recommendations through the Sonder app.

Sonder and Marriott inked a deal in 2023 for this portfolio to join Marriott Bonvoy. At the time, the 2 companies said the partnership would add 9,000 rooms to the program with an additional pipeline of 1,500 rooms.

Final Thoughts

It’s good news that Marriott is providing several elite perks and the earnings we expected at Sonder by Marriott — rather than the reduced rates we’ve seen as the hotel giant launches brands like StudioRes.

While Sonder by Marriot has several restrictions (like no fifth-night-free bookings), Sonder still makes sense for travelers looking for a high-end extended stay option with the ability to earn and redeem points.
