I enjoy all my premium travel rewards cards immensely, though it’s unlikely I will keep all of them indefinitely. Each year, when the annual fee is due, I analyze the bottom-line value I receive from each card and determine whether to keep it.

However, there are 3 Chase credit cards that consistently fall outside this analysis, and I plan to keep them for the foreseeable future. Here are 5 reasons why.

1. No Annual Fees

Unlike high-annual-fee premium cards, these 3 Chase cards are unique because they offer tons of value without charging an annual fee.

Since no annual fee is due, I don’t have to periodically decide whether to keep or cancel the card, as I incur no out-of-pocket expenses to justify holding onto it.

Hot Tip:

An additional key reason to keep no-annual-fee cards is that they help extend my average credit history. There is no reason to cancel any of these cards, as they not only add value but also help to positively impact my credit score.

2. Strong Earning Potential

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, and Chase Freedom Flex® each have excellent earning potential with complementary bonus categories:

  • 5% cash-back at office supply stores, internet, cable and phone services, up to $25,000 in combined purchases each account anniversary year
  • 2% cash-back on dining and gas, up to $25,000 in combined purchases each account anniversary year

  • 5% cash-back on Chase Travel

Freedom Flex Card

  • 5% cash-back on up to $1,500 in purchases on rotating quarterly categories
  • 3% cash-back on dining and drugstores
  • 5% cash-back on Chase Travel

The Ink Business Cash card earns 5% cash-back at office supply stores, where I can purchase a variety of gift cards to use for other expenses. I can also earn 5% cash-back on my internet, cable, and phone services.

While the Ink Business Cash card and Freedom Flex card earn 1% on all other non-bonus-category purchases, the Freedom Unlimited card is more ideal for these purchases. The card earns 1.5% cash-back on all miscellaneous purchases.

Each quarter, the Freedom Flex card offers rotating categories that earn 5% cash-back, up to $1,500 in purchases. Categories commonly include supermarkets, gas stations, home improvement stores, Amazon, warehouse stores, and more.

3. Diversified Earning Categories

While the cards have several bonus categories in common, each card has its own specific earning strength. I can be assured of earning well on every purchase when using these 3 cards.

Walmart Baby Products
No matter what I buy, I’ll always earn well with the correctly chosen Chase card.

Here are the categories and the card I would typically use for each purchase.

  • I use the Ink Business Cash card for office supply purchases and cable and internet service.
  • The Freedom Unlimited card earns well on all purchases that do not otherwise fall into another card’s bonus categories. Examples include big box stores such as Walmart and Target, tuition, medical bills, home repairs, and insurance.
  • I use the Freedom Flex card at drugstores, but I also make sure to maximize earnings on quarterly bonus-category purchases. The card is also a good choice for my monthly cell phone bill, as we’ll discuss more below.

4. Rewards Transfer to Premium Chase Cards

While the Ink Business Cash card, Freedom Unlimited card, and Freedom Flex card are cash-back cards, rewards are first earned as Ultimate Rewards points. These rewards can be redeemed for travel through Chase Travel, cash back, gift cards, or shopping at select online retailers.

However, every Ultimate Rewards point I earn on these cards can be transferred to a Chase premium card, resulting in better potential redemption value for my rewards.

The Palace Madrid Room
Benefits of The Edit collection include on-site perks such as this upgraded room at The Palace Hotel in Madrid, Spain.

Typically, when redeeming rewards with any of these 3 cards, I’ll receive a consistent rate of 1 cent per point. But when I transfer rewards to my Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ , I can receive even greater value.
