The Chase Sapphire Preferred^® Card is one of the easiest travel rewards cards to recommend to my friends and family for its excellent mix of strong earning rates, travel perks, and affordability, making it suitable for rookies and seasoned travelers.

And doing so also benefits me: I earned the maximum of 100,000 points from referrals in the last year! It’s a win-win, as I get to earn rewards while introducing the people I know to a card that they, in the majority of cases, can really work for them.

How To Refer Friends to the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

To begin with, Chase offers a referral program that lets you earn extra Ultimate Rewards points when you refer a friend through a special link from one of your cards. If they apply and get approved, you, as the original cardholder, earn bonus points.

The program is available for many of Chase’s credit cards and co-branded cards, as well as Chase business credit cards.

With the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can earn up to 100,000 bonus points per calendar year, receiving 10,000 points for every successful referral. That means if you refer 10 friends and they all use your special link and get approved, you earn 100,000 bonus points.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card lets you earn bonus points on everyday purchases, like dining out, online grocery shopping (such as Instacart), and traveling:

• 5x points when you book travel through the Chase Travel Portal
• 3x points on dining, streaming services, and online grocery purchases (Walmart and Target are not included)
• 2x points on all other travel purchases
• 1x point on all other purchases

I order Instacart every week at home for my family of 5. That means by paying with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, I earn 3 points per $1 on online grocery purchases and rack up a ton of points each month.

The same can be said for my streaming services; I simply link my Chase Sapphire Preferred card to my Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu accounts to earn 3 points every $1 on these monthly expenses.

Also, one of the key points I share with friends before referring them to the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is that Chase has a really flexible way of defining the travel bonus category. For example, it’s clear that cardholders can earn 2x points on travel purchases made outside of Chase and 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel portal.

But did you know that the card also earns 2 points per $1 on common expenses like public transportation, tolls, and parking, which Chase considers travel? This can be extremely helpful in earning more points every day because not many other credit cards offer bonus points in these categories.

Perfect Pairings With Other Chase Cards

Honestly, many of my friends who ask for my recommendations on credit cards don’t seem to have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card in their wallets already. However, many people often have a Chase Freedom Flex℠ or Chase Freedom Unlimited^® in their wallet but haven’t used it much.

If you have a Freedom Flex card or Freedom Unlimited card, your rewards are essentially cash-back, valued at 1 cent per point. With the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can easily combine points and transfer them to travel partners, making them worth 2 cents (or more) per point.

Additionally, combining the Chase Sapphire Preferred card with other Chase cards helps you maximize your rewards on every purchase. For instance, you can earn 3x points on dining and streaming, 2x on travel with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and then also earn 5x on quarterly rotating categories like groceries, gas, and PayPal if you have the Freedom Flex card.

Conversely, the $0-annual-fee Freedom Unlimited card works great alongside the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. You can earn 1.5x points on all purchases, making it perfect for those transactions that don’t earn bonus points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card comes with a reasonable $95 annual fee and the Freedom cards have no annual fee at all! This makes the Chase Sapphire Preferred card a great go-to card, while the no-fee options work wonderfully alongside it.

Excellent Transfer Partners

Point blank, the best way to maximize your Chase Ultimate Rewards points is to transfer them to partners such as World of Hyatt, United MileagePlus, and Air France-KLM Flying Blue at a 1:1 ratio.

One of my favorite ways to use Chase Ultimate Rewards is by transferring my points to the World of Hyatt program. This lets me book amazing luxury properties for just a fraction of the points you’d need with Marriott Bonvoy.

I love sharing how great Hyatt redemptions are with my friends, and they often ask me about my experiences when they see photos of me enjoying luxurious stays at Park Hyatt and Andaz hotels in the World of Hyatt portfolio that cost me 30,000 points or less per night. (In comparison, you would need at least 80,000 points per night to redeem for a top-tier Marriott luxury hotel.)

In addition, for just 70,000 points, I can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Avios or Qatar Airways Privilege Club (plus about $102 in taxes and fees), and can fly one-way in Qatar Airways Qsuites to Doha (DOH) from several U.S. cities, including Atlanta (ATL), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), and Philadelphia (PHL).

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I don’t need to put in much effort to get my friends to see the benefits of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. I can effortlessly rack up to 100,000 bonus points in a calendar year simply by referring others to the card.

If you don’t have the card already, now’s a good time to apply. In addition, the card’s widespread appeal is enhanced by the opportunity to earn 10,000 bonus points for every approved referral and roughly $2,000 in travel rewards simply by referring friends, positioning it as one of the most sought-after travel rewards cards on the market.
