Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.
One of the most popular travel rewards credit cards on the market is currently offering an increased welcome bonus, but we just got word that it will soon be ending.
Not only is the 80,000-point welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card a great bonus, but this card is a great option for both those who are new to points and miles and those who have been earning and burning points for years.
Let’s take a look at this offer, and this card at large, to help you decide if it’s a good fit for your wallet.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Card 80,000-Point Welcome Bonus
If you apply — and are approved for — the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
That is, at minimum, $800 worth of cash-back or $1,000 when you redeem through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal. But we value the bonus at $1,600 thanks to the value you can receive by strategically using Chase’s travel transfer partners.
We now know that this increased offer is set to end by 6 p.m. EST on May 31, 2022.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Card Earnings and Benefits
The Chase Sapphire Preferred card earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points according to the following structure:
- 5x points per $1 spent on all purchases through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal
- 3x points per $1 spent on dining, online grocery purchases, and select streaming services
- 2x points per $1 spent on all other travel purchases
- 1x point per $1 spent on all other purchases
Plus, the card includes great benefits like a $50 annual hotel statement credit and annual bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year, along with important protections like trip delay insurance, baggage delay insurance, rental car insurance, and more.

What Can You Do With 80,000 Ultimate Rewards Points?

At the low end, you could redeem your 80,000 Ultimate Rewards points for $1,000 worth of travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. This includes flights, hotels, rental cars … you name it!
But, it’s also possible to get even more value than this using Chase transfer partners. For instance, 80,000 points transferred to World of Hyatt can get you 3 free nights (during off-peak or standard availability) at a Category C all-inclusive hotel like the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana. This property can often cost $500 to $600 a night, giving you $1,500 to 1,800 in value.
You can also transfer 60,000 points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to book a one-way ticket in ANA’s killer first class cabin, a ticket that would otherwise cost an eye-watering $10,000 to $13,000!

If you’re interested in the card and think you want to add it to your wallet, make sure to submit your application before the current increased welcome offer ends on May 31, 2022, at 6 p.m. EST.
